Important Information for You!
This Week...
As I believe most of you know, I will be gone Wednesday through Friday with other elementary principals at the MEMSPA Principal's Conference. I always look forward to attending this conference and learning with some of the top researchers and practitioners in our State and Country. While Jennifer Webster and Melissa Baracco will continue to serve as Head Teachers, Ron Adam will be in district covering the 'in-town' schools. Mr. Adam will be based at Central, but will be stopping by over the course of the three days. I will be monitoring email, but may not be able to get back with your until evening and will return to the office on Monday, December 12th.
Cool to Care
Monday is the last day for Cool to Care! As of Friday, we were only about 25 items away from our school goal of 3,500. I am sure that we will make our goal and I want to thank you for your support of this wonderful community project. Classroom teachers, please be sure to send me your classroom totals at the end of the day Monday. Additionally, please work with Sue to schedule the classroom rewards that your students may have earned with me. If your class earned a reward with Mr. Hall or Mr. Romanik, please work with them to schedule this.
ELA Meeting Tuesday...Open to Everyone
Just wanted to remind you that Melissa Wing will be here Tuesday, December 6th to help with ways to assess reading including Running Records. This meeting is open to anyone and will be held at Central from 4:15-6:15 with professional development credit being offered. I know that many of you have shared that you would rather continue to work on Word Study implementation, so Melissa has worked with Dena and this will be an option. However, please rsvp to Dena and let Melissa know as well if you plan to attend.
Christmas Shopping Opportunity
You should have all gotten an email from Michelle Edwards that included information about Project Graduation fundraiser being held at Barnes and Noble next Sunday, December 11th. This is a great opportunity to pick up some reading for yourself or as gifts and support a positive opportunity for our high school seniors.
Links to 5D+ Resources
Thanks to Theresa Wendt and Verle Gilbert for sharing the following links that address indicators in the 5D+ Rubric. Administrators have been sharing these links with each other and passing them on to help our our teachers as we experience the new observation process together. I recognize that this might seem very overwhelming, so I do not expect nor would I encourage you to go through each one in one or even two settings. Rather, take time and look through them over the next month or so, use them as you have questions about a specific indicator or section of an indicator, 'star' the email with this newsletter for future use...these are just suggestions/examples/possible answers to help as we all work through the learning of this new tool and what it means. If you have any questions or want to discuss anything, please see me.
