Educational #Hashtags
Hashtags are frequently used on social media such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and Google Plus as a way to identify pictures or messages on a certain topic. On our personal social media accounts this can sometimes be annoying because there are many people who overuse hashtags (see the video), but there is a benefit to using them for professional development. Educational hashtags are a great way to explore great ideas and engage in discussion on a variety of topics. Many of the hashtags have “meeting times” where educators agree to “meet and tweet." Even if you do not participate in the chat, you can visit the hashtag whenever you choose to read the discussion.
A great way to start is by exploring hashtags on Twitter. Even if you do not want to post using a hashtag yourself, you can click on a hashtag that interests you to see what others are saying. Below is a list of commonly used education hashtags and what topics they cover.
I will also be tweeting out these hashtags on my Twitter (@CiminoHMP) so that you can click and explore! If you follow any hashtags not listed below please Tweet them at me so that we can explore!
