A Note From Our Principal
Dear CE Families,
Happy New Year. Continuing with our theme to make this the Best Year Yet, I am committed to our attendance initiatives of ensuring that all students are here on-time and ready to learn. In addition, the staff has taken on the challenge to build their classroom libraries with books kids love to read. We know that reading in volume matters and nothing is more exciting than reading a book that fuels your brains and fills your heart. Last, we will look to our core values of empathy, gratitude and take positive action to guide our decisions. Talk to your child everyday about their day. Discussion starters could be…
- What games did you play at recess today?
- Did you use any cool math tools in class today?
- Tell something that worried or made you laugh today?
- Did you learn something new that surprised you?
Questions like these can get your child talking about their feelings which in turn will diminish anxiety and bring about positive strategies and solutions to try.
Wishing you all a happy and healthy new year.

A Message from our Coxsackie PTO
Pretty soon the hustle and bustle of the holidays will dissipate and we'll have a moment to breath and reflect on the true magic of the season....
We all work so hard to keep our children swathed in wonder and merriment all year round, and that can be a full time job in and of itself (who among you feels those small tendrils of panic when it's become apparent that that darn elf didn't move?). For this among innumerable reasons, I am so grateful for the parents and staff at Coxsackie Elementary. We pulled off what turned out to be the biggest attended Breakfast with Santa in at least the past 5 years.
It was no small feat between hoarding...I mean collecting books for Santa to disperse, decorating (how fabulous were the lights in the cafeteria?!), serving up some new fan favorites in the kitchen (eggs and waffles galore!), piano accompaniment and Select Choir (you guys rocked!), organizing fun crafts and activities (totally radical ninja turtle ornaments, dude!), student orientated vendors in the lobby (free face painting...what?!) and last but not least by far...the clean up crew. It took a small army of parents, grandparents, friends, students (HS, MS and CE) and staff to pull off this event and they did an amazing job. Thank you all!
Stay Tuned,
Elisha
~~~ COMMUNITY SERVICE UPDATES ~~~
Together, We Can Make a Difference!
Imagine walking in a park and seeing all kinds of plastic wrappings blowing around in the wind, or envision swimming in the ocean, when suddenly a long piece of plastic wrap from a package wraps around your leg as you swim back to shore, or even still, picture your groceries being unpacked from plastic grocery bags. What do we do with all of the unwanted or unneeded plastic in our lives? Coxsackie Elementary students have a solution!
Starting right now, the Coxsackie Elementary community has a wonderful opportunity to participate in the stewardship of Earth and its creatures by collecting specific kinds of plastic to be turned in and recycled by the TREX company. The TREX company takes these plastics and melts, mixes, and creates new materials like durable decking, park benches, and other long lasting plastic items. There are several receptacles in the foyer of Coxsackie Elementary (between the double doors of the main entrance) to place your clean, dry plastic items in.
Each CE student will be sent home with a magnet very soon that shows some of the items they can collect and bring in. For example, some items to start collecting are clean, and dry: plastic grocery bags, bread and cereal bags, pellet stove bags, dry cleaning bags, and plastic wrappings from toilet tissue, paper towels and cases of water. Coxsackie Elementary students are excited to help and hope that you will feel their passion for a cleaner earth and assist in this worthwhile endeavor! Stay tuned!
