Principal's Message
Dear Parents/Carers,
This is such a beautiful time of the year – a time of mixed emotions and change. People are moving on to other ventures – everyone deals with change in different ways. I always like to think of change as an opportunity, a way of embracing something new, learning something different and an exciting time of unknown things to come. It is a time of celebration and one where many memories are relived. The Y6 group are busy preparing for their graduation and talking about their memories of Parkhill, and sharing their excitement - sometimes anxiety - about next year.
Our Awards Assembly was such a lovely celebration of achievement throughout the school and a great opportunity for us to come together as a community and celebrate our achievements. It is always a pleasure to see children so proud of themselves and to share those moments. Reports come home on Monday – where all children will have the chance to gain precious feedback about their learning. Please do spend some time talking through their achievements and celebrating their successes. If you would like to sit and talk through the report with your child’s class teacher, please do make a time next week before the holidays.
At the end of the term, we do say goodbye to a few members of staff. Cathy Bateman, as you are all aware, is moving to teach at Huntingtower, as is Jackie Knight. Jackie shared her news with us on Tuesday. She has secured a library role at Huntingtower and will leave Parkhill at the end of the term. Victoria Bruges-Cannon is taking leave until the end of term.
Y6 2019 LEADERSHIP:
A couple of weeks ago we announced our Y6 school leaders of 2019. Every year it is super exciting to be able to work with a new team of students – to watch all of our Y6 students grow and show themselves as leaders is such a treat. I congratulate all who were successful in acquiring the position they wanted.
FINAL WORDS:
Next week will continue to be busy – we will have our winning house special lunch, move day, and other end of year celebrations. If you are available on Thursday, it would be great to get some help for our move day – teachers and children will be moving into their 2019 classroom spaces ready for the new year.
Reminder: school closes on Friday 21 December at 1:30pm
Have a lovely weekend,
Elaine Brady

News from the Garden
Our last dish for the year was a real crowd pleaser. Many students licked their plate totally clean! Using rhubarb and strawberries (both of which we grow in our garden) we made a delicious crumble dessert.
Here is the link to the recipe:

Please note we have now finished garden classes for the year and there will be no classes in Week 11.
Many thanks to all the wonderful volunteers who made it possible to run the program. Stay tuned for roster requests for 2019. If you are able to assist us by volunteering to be a 'chicken checker' during the holidays please notify the office.

Y4 CERES Excursion
The Y4 students went to CERES to learn about Africa and the diverse culture and traditions. We participated in activities such as building huts and making mud bricks. We learned about and participated in some African celebrations, such as an African wedding. We learnt how to do some African dancing, collected water and played some traditional African games.
Lots of fun was had by all!

Games Club
This week our Christmas activity was wordsearches, colouring in Christmas pictures and drawing, along with the usual chess, building and trains.
Thank you to the families that have donated games to our club, it is very much appreciated.

THANK YOU from the Fun, Food & Carols team!
2018 Fun, Food & Carols was a huge success. The vista was beautiful (what a way to showcase the decking) the community spirit high, the weather temperature too – I think everyone was hoping for a go on the dunking machine! A BIG thank you to everyone who made it happen - whether it was contributing goodies, assisting on the night or just coming along to support the event - we couldn’t have done it without you.
THEY’RE HERE!!! Prizes have arrived for the School Colour Fun Run! Children can collect their prizes from the science kitchen from 9-11am or after school on Friday (14th December). Thank you again to our wonderful Parkhill community for the fantastic effort. Anyone unable to collect their prizes on Friday can contact the office on Monday morning.
