Superintendent Northern's Message
Good afternoon everyone
As I was sitting here thinking about what to write in this introduction this week, I kept thinking about the crazy world we are living in right now. But the thought kept popping into my head the reason we were called to do what we are doing is so that our students have the chance to go out into the world and make a difference. We are facing a huge challenge right now, and as a result our students depend on us now more than ever. Public education always has been seen as the "Great Equalizer" and I believe that to be true. Thank you for your relentless effort in making sure that our students have an opportunity to be successful. You are truly "AWESOME".

That's the Icing on the Cake!
LHS students in Mrs. Khris Oaks' hands-on Culinary Arts classes have started decorating cakes. The students learned about cleanliness, recipes, and watched Mrs. Oaks demonstrate how to decorate a cake. They then went to work, making their icing from a recipe and using their skills to pull off their design. It was challenging, fun, and students learned from the experience! We look forward to their skills developing! Every year Mrs. Oaks takes many students to State to compete in cake decorating. Thank you, Mrs. Oaks, for offering an opportunity for students in the field of culinary arts!

LHS Choir Students Qualify for Region 16 Contest
The results for the 2020 Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Region XVI Vocal Auditions have been posted, and LHS students fared well. The region contest is the first on the All-State journey. Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, the auditions were virtual. The intent of TMEA was to come up with a system that would equalize the opportunities for all Texas student musicians in this online audition process by completing the audition virtually or on an Internet connected device. Deborah Payne, LHS Choir director, received additional consultation from LISD technology specialists Scott Lawson, Teresa Carter, and Devin Sonnenburg. TMEA provided the MusicFirst Platform for students to record and submit auditions. The PracticeFirst Platform allowed the students to rehearse and record, agreeing that it made them less nervous when it came to the actual audition. TMEA allowed all students to have the opportunity to record countless attempts to experiment in obtaining their best results. Most students were satisfied with 1-3 attempts to submit. Eight LHS Choir students advanced to the pre-area virtual auditions: junior Crockett Thetford, bass-chair 11, freshman Grason Edens, tenor-chair 10, senior Christian Corley, Bass 2-chair one, junior Brody Johnson, tenor-chair 2, sophomore Lizzie Corley, alto-chair 2, freshman Meekness Childers, alto-chair 8, and junior Machayla Parkinson, soprano-chair one. Not pictured is sophomore Elyanna Solano, soprano-chair 14. Congratulations to all these outstanding choir members and Mrs. Payne for her leadership! The Pre-Area Auditions will be November 28th -December 2nd.
