AP Testing 1-2-3!
AP testing is in full swing at Liberty and we just wanted to remind you of AP testing procedures. Please read all of the FISD AP testing guidelines at https://www.friscoisd.org/docs/default-source/advanced-academics/ap-testing-information.pdf?sfvrsn=8; highlights are below.
Students need to report to their testing room at 7:30am for morning tests and 11:30am for afternoon tests unless otherwise posted.
Please note, schools are not required to admit or test latecomers once general instructions have begun so no one will be admitted after that time. If a student is late and misses the exam, no refunds will be given, nor will the student be able to register for late testing.
All testing rosters will be posted in the rotunda several days prior to testing day. Students will need to look on the rosters for testing room and seat assignment. It is the student’s responsibility to do this prior to testing day. If there are any questions we ask that your student visit the counseling office immediately.
If your student has two tests in one day or is taking an afternoon test, please make sure that your student packs a lunch. We will allow the student ample opportunity to eat between tests, but the cafeteria will not be open to purchase food.
What to bring to the testing site:
• Several sharpened No. 2 pencils with erasers, for all responses on the multiple-choice answer sheet. (No mechanical pencils)
• Pens with black or dark blue ink for completing areas on the exam booklet covers and for free-response questions in most exams.
• A watch that does not have internet access, does not beep, and does not have an alarm.
• Up to two approved calculators with the necessary capabilities for the AP® Biology, Calculus, Chemistry, Physics, or Statistics exams. Visit the College Board Calculator Policy page to find the calculator policy for each subject and a list of approved graphing calculators.
**Food and water are allowable but they must be in clear plastic bags and/or original packaging (and placed on the side of the room) prior to the start of the test.
What NOT to bring to testing site:
• Students may not bring backpacks into the testing area; they should be stored in their locker or their car.
• Electronic equipment (cell phone, smartphone, laptop, table computer, etc.), portable listening or recording devices (MP3 player, iPod® , etc.), cameras or other photographic equipment, devices that can access the internet, and any other electronic or communication devices.
• Books, compasses, protractors, mechanical pencils, correction fluid, dictionaries, highlighters, notes, or colored pencils (unless highlighters or colored pencils have been preapproved as an accommodation by the College Board Services for Students with Disabilities office prior to the exam date).
• Scratch paper; notes can be made on portions of the exam booklets or, for Chinese Language, and Culture and Japanese Language and Culture, on scratch paper provided by the proctor.
• Watches that beep or have an alarm, or smartwatches.
• Computers (unless this has been preapproved as an accommodation by the College Board Services for Students with Disabilities office prior to the exam).

TEST ANXIETY
Test anxiety affects many of our students. This article from Very Well Mind highlights some strategies for overcoming test anxiety. Read the full article here.
What Is Text Anxiety?
Test anxiety is a psychological condition in which people experience extreme distress and anxiety in testing situations. While many people experience some degree of stress and anxiety before and during exams, test anxiety can actually impair learning and hurt test performance.
Test anxiety is a type of performance anxiety. In situations where the pressure is on and a good performance counts, people can become so anxious that they are actually unable to do their best.
So what exactly can you do to prevent or minimize test anxiety? Here are some strategies to help:
- Make sure you're prepared. That means studying for the test early until you feel comfortable with the material. Don't wait until the night before. If you aren't sure how to study, ask your teacher or parent for help. Being prepared will boost your confidence, which will lessen your test anxiety.
- Banish the negative thoughts. If you start to have anxious or defeated thoughts, such as "I'm not good enough," "I didn't study hard enough," or "I can't do this," push those thoughts away and replace them with positive thoughts. "I can do this," "I know the material," and "I studied hard," can go far in helping to manage your stress level when taking a test.
- Get enough sleep. A good night's sleep will help your concentration and memory.
- Take deep breaths. If you start to feel anxious while you're taking your test, breathe deeply in through your nose and out through your mouth. Work through each question or problem one at a time, taking a deep breath in between each one as needed. Making sure you are giving your lungs plenty of oxygen can help your focus and sense of calm.
- Avoid the perfectionist trap. Don't expect to be perfect. We all make mistakes and that's okay. Knowing you've done your best and worked hard is really all that matters, not perfection.
