Westwood Families,
I hope everyone had a wonderful break. Tomorrow is the last day of the trimester. Students will continue to follow their schedules in trimester two. We had a few minor schedule changes for specific students. These will be communicated on an individual basis from Mr. Nelson, Mr. Luecke, or Ms. Krier.
Due to the end of the trimester, there is no school on Friday, December 3 and Monday, December 6. These days are reserved for staff to work on grading / report cards, communication, professional learning and planning for trimester 2. Trimester 2 begins Tuesday, December 7.
First trimester report cards will be available to parents and students through Campus on Friday, December 10 at the end of the day. Report cards are just one of many ways that we report on student learning throughout the year. Report card grades reflect student learning, and teachers look at evidence of learning, over time, to determine where students are at in their learning at the time of report cards.
Report cards for students in grade 5
All grades received reflect student learning that occurred during Trimester 1
- An NA indicates that students did not have opportunities to learn the identified outcome in trimester 1.
- An NE (No Evidence) grade indicates that students had opportunities to learn this outcome during Trimester 1 but did not submit any evidence of their learning. As a result, there is no evidence to determine where they are at toward meeting the learning outcomes.
Report Cards for students in grades 6,7,8
- Course grades for Trimester 1 are based on student learning for academic outcomes that were designated in the Trimester 1 overview, developed for each course at Grades 6-8 and shared with students and families in Schoology at the beginning of the trimester.
- Students receive a grade of NY (Not Yet) for any courses where they have submitted evidence of learning but have not demonstrated proficiency in their learning to result in a grade of A, B, C, or D. Students who end Trimester 1 with a grade of NY will continue with the learning in trimester 2 to acquire the academic outcomes until they demonstrate proficiency on course learning outcomes that result in a grade of A, B, C, or D.
- Students will receive a grade of NE (No Evidence) for any courses where they have submitted no or limited evidence of learning in Trimester 1. Students who end Trimester 1 with a grade of NE will continue with the learning in trimester 2 to acquire the academic outcomes until they demonstrate proficiency on course learning outcomes that result in a grade of A, B, C, or D.
We look forward to another trimester of learning,
Tom Larson

Activity highlight - Curling Club
Who: Any SLP Student in grades 6-12 may join. No prior experience necessary!
What: The sport of curling consists of four team members working together in different ways to accurately place curling rocks or “stones” on a sheet of ice 150 feet long! All team members are constantly involved whether you are “throwing,” “sweeping,” or “skipping.” The play is usually not fast-paced, and there is always an opportunity to socialize and have a great time on or off the ice. We will work to instill integrity and sportsmanship through a sport that relies on both in order to be successful.
Where: Four Seasons Curling Club, 9250 Lincoln St NE, Blaine, MN 55434.
When: Wednesdays and Thursday, December 1, 2021-February 24, 2022 from 3-4:30 p.m. For those who need it, busing is provided after school from Westwood and SLPHS to the club.
Registration: Register for curling club
