Virtual Rainbow Club

MCPS is starting a virtual Rainbow Club for any elementary student/family who is interested. A Rainbow Club is an affirming space for LGBTQ+ students, families and allies. Please see this flyer for more details and feel free to share with anyone who may be interested. FYI: Rainbow Clubs exist in at least three MCPS elementary schools at this time and more are being added to the list this year. If your school does not have an in-person Rainbow Club, this is a great option.

Special Events Coming UP at TPES

Word Parade

This year, as a literacy initiative, we will be having a literacy parade or word parade! Please note this is not a Halloween activity and will not be associated as such. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

When: Friday October 21st at 10:15.

Where: K-2 Students will march around the school and parents can take photos as they walk.

This is weather permitting for parents. If it rains, we will march inside and parents won't attend.

Fall Festival

Although Takoma Park E.S. does not do Halloween celebrations, we will have a robust Fall Festival. There are no costumes allowed during the event. The Fall Festival dates will be announced in early October. We will need parent volunteers to make this event a success and loads of donations of items for the kids. Dates and sign ups for volunteers and donations will be sent out in the October 2nd.

Menu Changes

Unfortunately, our school lunch menu changes frequently with little notice to the school cafeteria. If and when this happens, the staff at TPES will work to notify parents as soon as possible.

Save the Date!

National Walk to School Month (October) is fast approaching, and the designated National Walk and Roll to School Day is on Wednesday, October 12th.

When Do We Return Our Library Book?

You may check what day your child should return their TPES library books by referring to this Library Media Class schedule. Kindergarteners borrow their books for one week and first/second graders borrow for two weeks. Thank you for helping our students return their library books on time!

Meet Faye Nabavian, Parent Community Coordinator

My name is Farzaneh (Faye) Nabavian and I am the Parent Community Coordinator at Takoma Park Elementary School.

I assist to build and strengthen positive relationships with families and I work collaboratively with school leaders, staff, and community organizations to develop and implement family engagement activities. I support families by guiding them through the school system, helping to build their ability to advocate for their student’s academic success, especially those who may be facing language, cultural or economic barriers.

I also have established the “Kindness Corner,” which currently is at work at Blair High School and Takoma Park Middle school, and I hope to do the same at Takoma Park ES. The Kindness Corner has been possible with the great support of the school community and the school PTSA that can provide funding to keep the kindness going…and with the support of every department that generously supports and donates to keep it running. If you or someone you know at Takoma Park ES may benefit from the Kindness Corner or would like to make donation to Kindness Corner, please share my information with them.

To learn more about my role as well as the Kindness Corner, you can visit my site at https://blairpcc.weebly.com. This site has all three of my schools and also provides very useful links in the resource section as well. Please feel free to text/call me at 240-506-8576 or email me at Farzaneh_nabavian@mcpsmd.org. I look forward to meeting the families at TPES!
