Kindergarten Class News
March 11-15, 2019
Language Arts
A short-and-sweet newsletter for you this week! :) This week we learned two new sight words, of and they. The Kindergartners are still having a hard time recognizing rhyming words. They can all produce a word that rhymes with another but answering "yes" or "no" to whether or not words such as hit and hat rhyme is still a struggle. We have read rhyming books, sang songs that rhyme, and now I have created some fun rhyming/word family activities that each student must practice their rhyming with every day during our Daily 5 centers. I am hoping that this makes a difference as this is a skill we have been working on for quite awhile now! Please reinforce rhyming at home in whatever ways that you can!
Math
Along with subtraction, we are working on writing numbers 1-100 daily. Identifying the "teen" numbers are tricky for many so please work on this at home as well. If your child can recognize and write numbers up to 31, move on to numbers up to 50 and then finally 100!
"Rainbow Ring" Science Investigation
Students became scientists this morning as we made predictions on what would happen when we mixed colors together and what would happen when a small a corner of paper towel was submerged in water. We made predictions, observed and described our results, and reflected on what we had learned. My favorite response was "sometimes we are right and sometimes we are wrong"!
