Every excuse of "can't" just left the room! What "can't" you do? Well, you can, and she just proved it!

Snapshot Exemplar
What do you see in Dr. Ford and Ms. Palmer's snapshot that shows a clear purpose and focus?
Assessing a "Do" vs. Assessing a "Know"
Mrs. Burford provided some great PL at the beginning of this week that washed away a good amount of the mud that was covering our purpose for Data Teams and PLC's. I am not naive enough to believe that everyone is going to jump on board everything we bring to the table, but I truly believe that the Data Teams process and focus can provide us with great feedback; whether it be student performance feedback or teaching practice feedback. Either is useful, but remember, the goal is to gauge our instructional practices.
Speaking of feedback - Monday I began to think about not only how we assess but what we assess, and i stumbled upon this question.....
Are the majority of your formative assessments assessing what students are "doing" or are they assessing what students actually "know"? Remember that grades based off of completion show no value in what students know. Formative assessments are most reflective of what students know in the form of mini assessments. Grading for completion should be noted in the informal category.
Don't assess a "DO"...assess a "Know"!

Keeping our SIP in Focus - We need You!
1. We will increase the number of students at or above Lexile levels on the Universal Screener.
Students should be reading throughout their day. This doesn't mean that you have to go to an extreme, but we do want to see students using literacy skills to obtain knowledge, and solve problems.
RI results are in....
2. We will increase the number of students who score proficient or higher by 10% on the EMBRACER writing protocol.
EMBRACER data has been collected. We will share our pre-data soon! Continue to support by embedding writing opportunities for your students! This should be happening weekly, at the very least.
3. We will decrease the amount of students in all grades who fail 2 or more classes for the EOY average.
Keep in contact with parents of students who are not passing your classes. Remember that emails are not the best opportunity to discuss progress. Some parents request it because of convenience. However, we all know that the message is not always clear when it is convenient.

Differentiation - Need Support?
After our PL session earlier this week, I noticed some feedback sticky's that requested specific examples of differentiation for your content area. If you are in need of support, please let us know. We have some folks in our building who do a great job of differentiating, and we can utilize those great resources in our building. Continue to work through the three questions below.
Remember to ask yourself these 3 questions:
1. What is the need?
2. How did I identify it?
3. What will I do to address it?
