What a Week!
Alphafriends
We have started one of the best parts of kindergarten....Alphafriends! So far, we have met our friends, Sammy Seal and Mimi Mouse. The iPads have proved to be a great tool in supporting our letter sound learning. The students are using an app called "Book Creator" to create an interactive book of all the Alphafriend characters. We have had a great time taking photos, drawing pictures, writing and recording words that begin with the letters "m" and "s." We especially love listening to the songs that correlate with each character!
Counting, counting and more counting!
This week, we have had a lot of time to play and explore with our math manipulatives. Students worked with unifix cubes, polydrons and pattern blocks to count, build and sort. We have been counting out groups of objects and counting the dots on domino patterns. We learned a new game called "Domino Lotto," where we work with a partner to match dominos to their pair or numeral. It was fun to see the mathematicians at work!
Miss Sweeney's Super Writers Club
"Miss Sweeney's Super Writers Club" has hit the ground running. The club (the name was chosen by the writers of our class) is a part of our Writer's Workshop, which teaches the students all about what it means to become a writer. We often reference professional authors in our discussions, sending a powerful message to the children that they can be writers, too! Ask your child about the phrase we use as writers... "When you think you're done, you've just begun!"
