For the next few weeks, Ed Services TOSA team will be hosting our Tech Help Wednesdays. In order to provide on-site support during both elementary and secondary school reopening, Connection Tuesdays and JOT Thursdays will not be taking place in the weeks of 9/21 and 9/28. If you have any questions, please join us on Wednesdays.
In addition to this weekly support, you can complete a request for help by going to bit.ly/secondarysupport.

Students - Displaying Their Camera
Fostering connections with students remotely can be difficult without seeing their faces but requiring cameras to stay on during class can be difficult for students who lack a stable internet connection, feel anxious on screen or are concerned about others observing their living conditions. TUSD recognizes that direct visual connection between student and teacher is optimal for active learning and accountability; however, we do not have a mandatory "camera on" policy for virtual students.

If a student consistently does not have his/her camera turned on and does not respond to teacher prompts during a class, teachers are encouraged to contact the student and parent as part of Wednesday's intervention. Ask the student and parent why the camera is off? Explain why it is important for the student's success. Offer to teach the student and parent how to set-up a background screen. Develop a compact with the student that if the camera is off, the student will post a response to questions asked in the chat. Please document the intervention in Aeries.

Reading Tier 2 Intervention - Admin & Teacher Leader Meeting
We have been in the early planning phase of determining how to best provide Tier 2 support/intervention for our striving readers in grades 6-8, 9, and ELs 10-12. The plan is to provide support for unfinished learning from COVID closures, as well as for gaps in student reading skills. This year, we will be using Lexia PowerUp Literacy to provide students personalized learning paths (see details about Lexia below).
We invite interested English teachers to an optional meeting on Wednesday, September 23rd at 11:00 to provide feedback on implementation structures and strategies.
We will briefly review what Lexia PowerUp Literacy has to offer, provide some possible implementation structures, and ask for input. We truly want to craft a plan that best supports student literacy growth and provides a structure that supports your team of teachers. Please click HERE to add your name if you plan to attend. We will email a confirmation to all early next week.
Lexia PowerUP
Lexia® PowerUp Literacy™ allows students to work at their own pace to develop skills essential to success in both literacy and content-area learning. After automatically placing students at just the right level, PowerUp guides students through an expertly crafted scope and sequence.
In PowerUp, students are automatically placed at the proper skill level where they can work independently. Through a system of explicit instruction, adaptive learning, and scaffolding, PowerUp gradually releases responsibility to students as they demonstrate greater proficiency.
