NEWS and NOTES
Thank YOU to all those that made our 10th Anniversary Celebration a success!!!! Ms. Sedam, Ms. Fosnow, Ms. Seidman, Ms. Raynor, Ms. Ford, Ms. Martinez, Ms. Fox, Ms. Fritchie, and Mr. Franklin.....THANK YOU for all you did!!! It was amazing to see the large turnout and have to scramble for more chairs!! If I left someone out, please let me know. I saw these ladies and gentleman working hard this evening!!!
We will have our 2nd (and last) monitoring visit from the IDOE on Thursday, May 26th. I know that we will show continued growth in the areas of rigorous instruction and having students know and own their data...two areas we needed to improve upon from our previous visit.
Short observations will continue this week. I will be focusing on the posting and alignment of I CAN statements, the referencing of these statements throughout the lesson, and how you gradually release content to students. Instruction must be intentional and directly tied to the purpose of the lesson. It is not enough to keep students busy....how are engaging them in a rigorous and intentional manner?
PLC's will be cancelled this week for you to be able to focus on grades, which are due into the system by midnight on May 26th. You will be entering two grades- Quarter 4 (SCM Column) and Final (SCF Column) grades. Please let me know if you have any questions...and if you are having issues with TAC and the grade book, please call Tech @ 3600.
When we have PLC's the following week, please bring any student data (Common Assessments, DIBELS) for us to begin having conversations about student classes for next year. As with our instruction, we need to be intentional about class assignments...what worked well this year for classes, what didn't? This is the time to reflect and make adjustments.
Thank you for your feedback on the Teacher Staff Development Survey. This data will be used to plan out our PD schedule, which I will give to you on June 9th for the 2016-17 school year. Remember....we have grown A LOT this year....but we will need to continue to grow next year to achieve our goals!!
Speaking of next year......the first article is a sampling of the book study we will conduct over the summer (PGP points will be given, it will be on WisdomWare before you leave). Feedback from our Leadership Team's Self-Assessment and the survey you just completed stated we needed to grow in the area of knowing how poverty affects student learning and ways to support this in the classroom with your instructional and behavior management practices. This book is a great read and provides practical strategies and resources to increase student achievement. Next year, we will focus on the WHOLE Child to increase achievement!!
