NEW in 2018!
An important change from past years is that exhibitors (4-H/FFA families) will be responsible for submitting their animal (market and breeding) information into the AKSARBEN livestock database online themselves prior to the nomination deadline. In the past, families turned in DNA envelopes and breeding nominations cards to the office, staff mailed them to AKSARBEN and the entry process was done manually by staff. This led to mistakes, missing entries, missing payments, etc.
The database now has the capacity to accept animal information submitted directly by exhibitors (4-H/FFA families) as well as payments for the DNA process. The process ensures responsibility on exhibitors (4-H/FFA families) with a number of safeguards in place for Extension staff and the Nebraska 4-H Program staff to monitor success. 4-H/FFA families will have the ability themselves to edit incorrect information (wrong tag number, wrong birth date, etc.) up to the deadline.
The Washington County Extension Office will still continue to mail in the DNA envelopes to the AKSARBEN office by the respected deadline. The Extension staff will also have the ability to see what our 4-H/FFA families have submitted and the Extension staff will still be validating those nominations throughout the nomination process. Once the information is in the database and has been validated by the Extension Staff or FFA Advisor, it will then be available for exhibitors to make State Fair entries.
Please note, any animal entry not in the database (done by the 4-H/FFA family before the respected deadline) or had not submitted DNA (to the Extension Office by respected deadline) will NOT be considered nominated and will be ineligible for State Fair.
Refer to "2018 4-H/FFA Livestock Identification Procedures" for complete list of important deadlines.

Washington County Fair Board Approves Livestock Auction
Originally shared March 30, 2018.
At its March 20th meeting, the Washington County Fair Board approved the formation of a committee to launch a first annual auction of large animal exhibits in conjunction with the 2018 Washington County Fair. The inaugural auction is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, August 1st with sale animals scheduled to be on display in the Two Rivers Bank arena with the time yet to be determined.
Jeff Warren and Rob Vogt agreed to identify members of the initial committee with committee members representing each exhibit category that will be eligible to sell at the auction. Covered exhibit categories for 2018 will include Market Beef, Market Hogs, Market Sheep and Market Meat Goats. While many details of the auction are yet to be formalized it is anticipated that each exhibitor will be allowed one animal to the sale from the covered categories. Their sale entry will have to be an animal that they exhibited at the 2018 Washington County Fair and it will need to be available for immediate transfer. (i.e. It’s show career is over.)
The livestock auction is not a function of the Nebraska Extension faculty/staff or the Washington County 4-H Council. However, we are passing along the information about the auction and will provide additional details as they become available from the auction committee. For more information, contact auction chair, Jeff Warren at 402-639-5256 or jwarren@aptask.com.
