1F Weekly News
October 18 - October 21
A Note From Ms. D
I hope you've had a good week! We have been working hard in class to wrap up a couple of our units this week in reading and social studies. We are also nearing the end of our first writing unit and taking our beginning steps as writers toward the revising and editing portions of the writing process.
As we consolidate, assess, and celebrate all that we have learned so far, I am also happy to remind everyone that we will have parent teacher conferences on Wednesday and Thursday. I want to extend a warm thank you to all the parents for their patience through the sign up process, and I sincerely look forward to touching base with everyone over the coming week.
In other news, we will begin our Swimming Unit in P.E. Class this week! Please see that and other announcements below for more information about upcoming events. (such as Halloween Festival Tickets).
The Curriculum Letters for our new units in Science and Reading are attached to this email as well.
The blog has been updated with pictures from the week.
SPECIAL EVENTS AND SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS
SWIMMING STARTS THIS WEEK!!
Sunday, Oct. 18th, 8am
Classes will be starting their aquatics program during PE beginning the week of October 18th, and will go for 3 weeks finishing on November 5th. There will be another 5-week unit later in the year.
This is part of the Physical Education program; therefore your child will be swimming on their scheduled Physical Education days during their regular P.E. class.
Students need to have the following equipment:
• STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO WEAR FLIP-FLOPS OR CROCS TO SCHOOL.
• Swimming suit (girls-one piece)
• Swim cap – mandatory for all elementary school students. These may be purchased from most sports stores or from the Booster Club. If students forget their cap they will be expected to wear one provided by the school.
• Plastic bag for wet gear
• Goggles (optional)- We do not have goggles for students to use.
Children who forget their swimwear will be required to use a school set. This is so they can still participate. The school suits and towels are washed and dried after use. Children should continue to wear their Physical Education uniform on PE days during the swim unit.
Please ensure their T-shirts and shorts are labeled with names or initials.
The aim of the Elementary Aquatics Program is to give all students the opportunity to learn and/or build on skills and knowledge in the following areas:
• Water confidence
If you have any questions or concerns, or you are interested in helping with your child’s swimming lessons, please email Mr Van at email@example.com.
