The Spencer Scoop
The Amazing Spencer Elementary: November 12, 2021
Office News
New Procedures
1) No whole group gatherings - No whole group carpet time or any other close groupings of entire classrooms. The teachers are rotating groups to the carpet, just not the whole class at once.
2) Staying with table groups/pods - Students will be with their table groups to minimize the number of contacts in the classroom and the areas and lunchroom of the fine arts.
3) 3 feet whenever and wherever possible - This helps us with contract tracing, of course, but we believe that the 3 feet spacing used at the secondary level is making a big difference as well.
4) Maximize space - Wherever possible, we'll work to maximize spacing in the classroom to allow for as much spacing as possible.
These measures should help limit the possible close contact status of our staff and students. These strategies should also help mitigate closing an entire classroom as well.
Do Not Send Your Child to School If...
If your child has any illness symptoms such as,
Fever over 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit
Cough
Shortness of breath
Difficulty breathing
Other early symptoms, including chills, body aches, sore throat, loss of taste or smell, headache, diarrhea, and nausea/ vomiting.
Stay home!
Other reasons to remain home:
If someone in your home has recently tested for COVID-19, keep everyone home until the results are in. If a positive test is revealed, everyone in-home needs to remain home for the full ten days.
Then, please call 810-299-4350 and let us know. You'll also want to complete the self-reporting link. The sooner this is done, the sooner Mr.Renner can process the paperwork.
The health department will notify Mr.Renner and share with him a return date for your child.
Please be diligent and do your part to keep all at Spencer safe.
Reminders About Drop Off Procedures
Do not drop off your child before 8:40 a.m. The classrooms will not be opened before this time.
When entering the kiss-n-go area, have your child and their belongings ready to exit the car. Remain in your vehicle and have your child exit from the passenger side. Children and adults should never get out of the driver’s side while in the kiss-n-go lanes.
Please pull all the way forward and then stop to let your child out.
After dropping off your child, wait for the cars in front of you to exit. Do not try to pass, as it puts students in danger.
After 9 a.m. the kiss-n-go lane will be closed and you must park and walk your child to the main office to sign-in.
Just to emphasize the last point above...if you are dropping your child off after the bell rings, you MUST walk them up to the building and sign them in on the iPad outside the office. NO student should be walking up to the building unattended by an adult.

This is a great opportunity for students to shop for family members. We will have volunteers to help shop and stay on budget. We will need volunteers to help out both days! Please take a look at the sign-up genius here for volunteer opportunities!
FOOD DRIVE
I've gotten a few questions about the food drive this year so I wanted to update you. With all the wonderful happenings at Spencer and the amazing Brighton community that gives back around the holidays we are going to do the food drive in February 2022 this year in hopes of making a difference during a slower time of the year for Bountiful Harvest. I've had a great time running this the last five years and I'm always blown away by the generosity of the Spencer Elementary families. I'll be in touch in January with more details. Happy Holidays! ~Emily Alford
As always, please check out our Facebook page and/or website for the most up to date information this year.
Note From the Counselor
Counselor Corner!
Hello from your Elementary Counselor, Mrs. McKiddy! I have very much enjoyed our start to a great school year. I spent the month of September visiting classrooms for a social-emotional lesson centered around forming connections with peers and strengthening friendships. I have also increased visits with individual students needing social-emotional support. I am working hard to add some peer support groups by the end of the month! As the year progresses, I am continuing to connect with classroom teachers for referrals for students who are struggling or may need additional support. If you are noticing some behaviors that are interfering with your child’s success in the classroom, please feel free to complete my parent referral form and we can work together to determine if supports are needed here at school.
We also have our BAS Elementary Counseling website for ideas and resources to be used at home! Please feel free to contact your counselor with any questions or concerns that you may have, and Mrs. Fox or Mrs. McKiddy will do their best to support your child.
