Husky Howler
December 11, 2020
With the first term ending last week, we will be publishing report cards next Wednesday. The Attleboro Public Schools have moved away from sending home a printed copy and are now publishing them through the Aspen family portal. Each student's family has their own account which should allow them to access each child's report card. If you've forgotten your User ID, please reach out to Mrs. Lavoie (melavoie@attleboroschools.com). As mentioned above, report cards will not be viewable until Wednesday.
Families who have either borrowed a hotspot from us or are in need of internet service, please click the link for an important Internet & Hotspot Update.
Be well,
Mr. Rich, Principal
This Week in Art
Hill-Roberts Families,
Our Husky artists are very happy to be back in the art room!
Kindergarten artists read a book inspired by the artist Paul Klee called, The Cat and the Bird. They pointed out the different shapes they saw in the illustrations, and then cut out those shapes from construction paper to create shape castles!
First graders were happy to be painting this week in the art room! They learned about the artist Paul Cezanne, and how he created his apple still-life paintings to look realistic. They worked very carefully to combine colors together in their apples to show value!
After reading the book, Say Something by Peter Reynolds, second graders were asked to think about their personal voice, and what they thought would make the world a better place. They chose a word that inspired them and created beautiful paintings inspired by the illustrations in the book.
Third-grade artists observed paintings created by Wayne Thiebaud and noticed how he used value and space to make the sweets in his artwork look more realistic. They combined drawing and collage to create their donut masterpieces!
This week fourth-grade artists started learning about form and how it differs from a shape. They drew spheres, cones, pyramids, cylinders, rectangular prisms, and cubes! They added value to their forms and will be creating a fun collage with them next week!
Ms. DeOrsey, Visual Arts Teacher!
Reading Incentive Program
We have special reading incentives for all of our students! Our Kindergarteners and 1st graders receive a monthly sheet with 20 books for them to color. Students color a book for each night they read at home. They return the sheets at the end of the month for a CREST ticket and a prize. Our 2nd graders read books and take Accelerated Reader quizzes. When they complete 10 books in a variety of genres, they earn special pins that our PTO provides. We had our first pin presented this week! Our 3rd and 4th graders participate in our Reading Patch program, also funded by our generous PTO! First, students read 10 books and take Accelerated Reader quizzes to earn a royal blue baseball cap. They then can earn a total of 16 different patches in 16 different genres. These special programs encourage reading and make it fun for all our students. Congratulations to all these GREAT readers!
