GRE Family Gazette
September 23, 2018
Dear GRE Families,
What an amazing Homecoming! Thank you for your support in making our Homecoming Spirit Week one for the books. Topping it off with an outstanding Pep Rally and Homecoming Parade was the perfect end to our week. A huge thank you to our PTO and Mrs. Doran for helping to create such an amazing experience for the "GREatest School".
This past week we also completed our first round of Party Wagon! Once a month, Mrs. Crawford and myself come around to each classroom playing music and getting students up and dancing before celebrating many classroom accomplishments including Leader of the Month. We had so much fun celebrating our amazing students!
Another thank you to all the families that participated in our first round of Parent Teacher Conferences. We had wonderful conversations about student growth and look forward to seeing even more families in October and November. As a reminder, our first grade card will not come home until December. If you have questions about your child's progress, make sure to reach out to your teacher!
Here's to a great week full of fun, friends and learning!

A Few Important Reminders:
2. Picture retakes are coming up on October 16th. If you were absent or would like to have a new photograph, be on the lookout for ordering information to come home. Keep in mind, if you ordered pictures and don't like them, you will need to turn in the photos to get your retake. It appears that some photos have been mailed directly from the photography company, we will be sending home photographs sent to the school in backpacks today.
3. Mumkin Pick up is this Thursday from 3:00-6:00. Pick up will be in the back parking lot of GRE. If you can't make it before 6:00, Mumkins will be moved to the front of GRE to the left of the main front door. Please consider signing up to help on delivery day by clicking here!
4. Thank you to the families that donating food items on Thursday so our teachers could have dinner between Parent Teacher Conferences. The food was delicious and it really helped recharge our staff on such a long day! We appreciate your support!
Specials Spotlight: Physical Education with Mrs. Grieger
We started off the year with learning and refining our playground games unit. The students learned a new game we call Hula Hoop Showdown. You may have seen this game going viral on FB and other media sources. The kids really enjoyed this game so much, I spray painted dots on the playground so they would be able to play at recess. I will be adding another set so more than one game can be going on at a time.
We are currently in the middle of our soccer unit!
K, 1st & 2nd grade took a pretend trip to the zoo and used soccer skills like different animals would. Ask your child if they can name one animal we did and how they would play soccer!
3rd & 4th grade traveled in different stations learning and refining different foot skills. Ask your child if they can show you one of the skills. They also worked on passing and 1 v 1 keep away.
All grades just completed playing a Pokemon Go Soccer style game. This was a huge hit! The kids were in a human board game traveling to different spaces working on soccer and fitness skills. They collected soccer ball tokens at each space to fill up their game board. Ask your child which space int he game board was their favorite - Water station was a popular one when I asked them at the end of class.
We will end the soccer unit playing 4 corner sideline soccer before we move along to out next unit.
