LCE News From Mrs. Blaney

September, 2022

Dear Families,

September flew by this year! We started the month with record-breaking heat. Fortunately, most of our air conditioning units kept up, and those that didn't were quickly repaired by our trusty maintenance crew. Our students have been hard at work. Their diagnostic assessments have been completed, and they are well into their first units of study. The trimester ends soon, and 1st - 6th-grade parents will receive report cards.

The month ended with a fun Elementary School Night at the LCHS football game. Spartans who were once Lions, Cougars, and Panthers visited their elementary schools on Friday, September 30. Students cheered them on at LCE, and many students attended the game. Our Spartans won! And so did our Lions with the highest participation of all three elementary schools!

In this newsletter, you will learn about some of the events of September and preview what is coming up during one of our favorite months at LCE, October. You will also have a chance to read more about our LCE Wellness Room, The Spot. And in case you haven't read it yet, I've attached the Parent-Student handbook again for your reference.

Sincerely,

Emily

September at LCE

From Back to School Night to Elementary School Night at the LCHS football game, our month was full of learning, fun, and sharing with our community.

9/11 Crescenta Valley Chamber Motorcade

LCE students learned about 9/11 (Patriot Day) in age-appropriate ways. On 9/9, we lined both sides of the school to cheer on our first responders and veterans in the motorcade. Each student received an American flag to keep as a reminder of this experience.

The Team That Plays Together Stays Together!

Our staff likes to have fun together. We are enjoying the start of a traditional school year with the ability to gather!

Character Counts Focus: Respect

We will be focusing on the character trait of Respect for the next few weeks. Respect is also one of our "3 B's" at LCE! When LIONS show respect, they follow the Golden Rule because they treat others the way they want to be treated. Our LIONS accept others' differences and are courteous to others. Respectful students deal peacefully with anger and disagreements. They are always considerate of others' feelings.

You'll find a poster about Respect at the front of the school, by the main office.

LCE Wellness Room: The Spot

Thank you to all of our LCE families for sharing your feedback and permission wishes for utilizing The Spot. This space has been very helpful so far. Students have a calm, private spot to regulate their emotions and a safe space to talk to a trusted adult. The Spot is not a place to "hang out" with friends or a place to hide from important school tasks. Instead, it is a place for students to learn the skills that will help them recognize and control their big feelings. A pdf is attached to the bottom of this newsletter for more information.

LCE Wellness Room Wish List

Our LCE Wellness Room, The Spot, is up and running. We still need some items to make it complete. If you would like to contribute to the space, we would really appreciate it!

Sand Toys for LCE Playground Wish List

Our students love the sandbox! Thank you to all of the families who have donated sand toys so far! With all that use, the toys tend to break. We have an LCE alum creating boxes for the toys!

Safety Around LCE

You may have read about the recent Town Hall and City Meeting about traffic and driver concerns at LCE around drop-off and pick-up times. PTA President, Stephanie Arnold, created a traffic flow map that will help our neighbors feel safe to walk their children to school, walk their pets, and safe to exit their driveways. Please follow these traffic patterns and, of course, all traffic signs (especially those No U-Turn and No Left Turn signs). Consider volunteering for our carline in the mornings! More info coming soon...
