Summit High School
Message From Mrs. Grimaldi
Dear SHS Families,
Beginning in the next week and a half we will start to see the first stage of construction on the library renovation. The general contractor will begin setting up the construction fencing and construction staging areas. This work should not interrupt any teaching and learning in the building.
The student council is in the process of organizing a Halloween program to take place during the lunch block on October 31st. Please tell your student to be on the lookout for information about this program and how students can participate.
It's a great day to be a Hilltopper!
Stacy Grimaldi
Principal

Congratulations to National Merit Scholar Semi-Finalists and Commended Students
Congratulations to Summit High School's 2024 National Merit Scholarship Semi-finalists: Cameron Valdes, Scott Au-Yeung and Isabella Estupinan!
Over 1.3 million juniors in about 21,000 high schools entered the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2022 PSAT. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. The number of Semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the national total of graduating seniors.
We also congratulate Hilltoppers who received the recognition of a Commended Student for the exceptional academic promise demonstrated by their outstanding performance on the PSAT.
Summit High School's commended students are Mia Avila, Ella Callahan, Olivia Canavosio, Avani Chaudhry, Andrew Cheung, Kate Cooper, Olivia Cui, Vincent DeFabio, Molly Fagan, Margaret Franco, Emma Gumny, Evan Gunter, Kaya Jain, Maeve Keegan, Sarah Kelly, Tyler Kessel, Matthew Lameo, Chloe Lee, Jonah Malik, Sofia Mendenhall, Shannon Palphreyman, Mitchell Piriya, Julia Speer, Keilah Torrillo, and Jay Welkis.
Did You Know?
Did you know that you can view your student's check-ins on Genesis? Students scan into the bathrooms, library, help centers, counseling office, and nurse's office when they visit these locations during the school day. You can view these check-ins in Genesis. Log into your Genesis account, and click check-ins on the left side of the screen. Please discuss with your student any excessive time out of class.
You can also view how many times your student did not have their ID badge with them in school. Please help ensure that your student has their ID badge with them each morning.

Morning Drop Off & Entrances Into The Building
When dropping off your student in the morning along the driveway, please pull up all the way before stopping to let your student out of the vehicle. Please do not cross the double line along Weaver Street if you are trying to bypass the traffic line for drop off. If you drop your student off on Kent Place Blvd., please drop off only on the school side of the street. For the safety of all students and drivers, please do not make K-turns or turn around in driveways along Kent Place Blvd.
Visitors to Summit High School
Appointments must be made in advance to see teachers, counselors, administrators, and other staff. Please be prepared to announce your name and purpose in order to be granted access into the building. In the event an emergency visit is necessary, please call the school’s main office ahead of your arrival so we are prepared to accommodate your needs. Drop-off items (lunch, instrument, Chromebook, etc.) may be dropped off in the bin outside the main entrance vestibule.
Academic Help Centers
Our academic help centers are up and running during each period. Please encourage your student to visit the academic help centers during their study hall period.
Parent Wellness Newsletter
This week, October 23rd - 27th, SHS will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week. This nationally recognized week is the oldest drug prevention campaign in the country.
At Summit High School, we commemorate Red Ribbon Week to show support for our family, friends, and community members who struggle with drug and alcohol misuse and to encourage open communication about the impact that drugs and alcohol have on our families and community.
This week students will have an opportunity to view a mixed media showcase created by students in our Art, Digital Art, and Sculpture and Ceramics class and a resource board created by our SAC and School Nurse.
On Wednesday, October 25th, we encourage all students in the district to wear red to show their support. All students will be participating in an Advisory lesson identifying how to be kind to their mind through natural highs.
So many of us have been touched personally by drug misuse - 46.3 million people aged 12 or older - one in 10 - are addicted to alcohol or other drugs. Over 150 people die every day from overdoses related to synthetic opioids like fentanyl. We must work together to combat this epidemic. Please join the conversation about drug misuse prevention. After all, everyone knows someone…so let’s prevent the next one!
News from the Nurse's Office
Our school nurse, Mrs. Akian, provides information every Wednesday to our students about health and wellness topics. Please see below for what was shared with students this past week.
