Message from the Principal
Black Bear Families,
We’ve had an exciting week here in Black Bear country!
We have been so blessed with all of the love shown by our community during Teacher Appreciation Week this week. Everyday, from treats to plants to mugs, has been a wonderful showing of love. Our staff has worked so hard to provide a high quality education for your students, so we deeply appreciate the love.
I’m sure you saw the announcement that Dr. Bobbie Brown will be leading the school next year as your principal. Bobbie is an amazing leader with a diverse background that meets the needs of our community perfectly. We cannot wait to introduce you to her. Please know that I will be working closely with her as we transition roles.
As I shared with our Site Council yesterday, because of a budget shortfall in TTSD next year because of declining enrollment, we are having to reduce the amount of teacher staffing at our building. Because numbers constantly change from now until August, I will not be sharing any specifics of teachers for every grade level. I’ve had numerous parents reach out to me asking what can they do. I advise two things:
- Contact your legislators to advocate for more education funding from the state.
- Advocate to your neighbors to enroll any students in TuES as soon as possible. We tend to get a rush of last minute registrations in August which makes planning now challenging. The earlier we know our enrollment, the better planning we can do.
I know we talk a lot about our parking lot, but we’ve had an upswing once again of people parking in our designated accessibility parking without a disability parking permit. Some people rationalize “it’s only for a few minutes”, but we have families that really need that spot. Thank you in advance for your cooperation!
Working with you for our students,
Jim

Club K Onsite Childcare
We are excited to have Club K provide on-site child care beginning with the 2023-24 school year. Registration is open! If you register for Club K by June 15th, you’ll receive discounted tuition. (See flier for current/discounted tuition. Tuition will rise after June 15th.) Based on the survey results, Club K is planning to offer AM care to Tualatin families and have registration set up that way. However, they need 12 students in order to operate morning programming, so be sure to register soon!
Rate sheet shows the morning and afternoon pricing options. Anything you can do to help spread the word would be appreciated!

Returning Next Year?
As we prepare for our 2023-2024 school year, we try to get an accurate student count to enable us to plan our classes. Forms have been sent home in your student's backpack. Please complete the form and return it to the school office by Friday, May 19th or you may fill out the online form. Thank you so much!
Student Information for Placement
Join our Amazing Team: Recess Ranger Wanted
ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A NEW CHALLENGE? We are looking for an energetic and kid-loving individual to join our AMAZING Recess Ranger team. What's a Recess Ranger? A loving adult who wants to join our school community in supporting students as they eat and play. The hours are from 10:30-1:15, leaving time for those other daily activities. The other bonus to the job is that you are on the same school schedule as your student/s. And as our rainy and cold season is coming to an end this is the perfect time to join our team!
If this sounds like the job for you, please click on the link to complete an application or reach out to the front office. We would be more than happy to talk to you about this position.

Parking Lot Protocol
- If you are picking your student up after school by car, you should wait in your car in the car line. Please do not leave your car unattended in the car lane.
- If you are picking your student up on foot/walking, please wait for your student in designated areas--by the flagpole and open grassy area at the front of the school.
- If you drive to school and want to pick up your student by the flagpole, please park your car in a legal parking spot and wait by the flagpole for your student.
- There is no pick up in the back parking lot. There is not a safe way to turn around in that parking lot, so please do not pull in and wait.
- Please do not come inside to wait for your student for safety reasons. If you would like to come inside to look for lost and found or for another reason, please come to the office to check in.
Thank you to everyone for helping keep our Tualatin community safe for all of our students.
