Did You Know.....

Each week I try to call out one thing about our school or staff that parents and student's may not know...

The Slackwood PTO runs our book fair along with other amazing events such as the Family Fall Festival and Villa Slackwood. The money raised by the PTO goes back into the school in the form of Field Trips, Books, and other amazing supports to our school

Video News

The PTO auctioned off 4 starring roles in my Friday video news. This week's star is Ishana Samisetti, a kindergarten student in Miss Van Metre's classroom. She is setting a high bar for the upcoming weeks. Look for James Lyons, Lucas McKenna and Ana Kramer in future editions.

Snow.... Snow..... And more Snow!

We got hit pretty hard over the weekend and the snow was pretty deep. The maintenance department and our custodians did an admirable job of moving snow off of the blacktop and our walkways. We can now have outdoor recess and get to school safely.

As you know, I'm an advocate for outdoor play. We will be playing outside unless the weather is extremely cold, there are icy conditions, or it is too wet. However, we do not allow students to climb the snow banks or throw snowballs. Please reinforce these behaviors when picking up your child. Thank you!

Our First Snow Play Day

Here are some pictures in a montage form from students playing in the snow today. Mrs. Murphy's students tried to do some sledding and the first graders did some snow art. Most of all, every one had an amazing time.

Check out this video with Hayden Clark (former Slackwood Student) who was the force behind starting our team years ago https://youtu.be/hgJEO_ayBOc

I know Mr. Billy doesn't have any hair but he promises to let it grow for a month before the event so you can see it all shaved off on the day.

If you want to donate to Mr. Billy having his head shaved, please click here: https://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/mypage/812482/2016

We Need Your HELP!

As you know, the school day starts at 8:00. Students actually have work beginning at 7:45. We need your help to make sure that students get here on time. If they arrive at 8 or later, they are missing out on instruction and are interrupting other students and staff. Just the other day we had 12 students arrive late and have to sign in. Five of them are kindergarteners. That means that someone has to stop the work they are doing and walk them out to the modular.

Please try to get your students here early. If they are here right at 8 o'clock we will accept them but they are actually late because work starts at 8. At 8:01 they must come to the front door and a parent must sign them in. THANK YOU!

Slackwood Represents and Celebrates

Each year Slackwood School participates in the township Memorial Day Parade. This year, the Township is celebrating the 75th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor and the 25th Anniversary of Desert Storm. If you are a Slackwoodian parent, grandparent or family member, we and the Township would like to recognize you during the parade. Please contact me at jbilly@ltps.org and we will make you part of this celebration.

Missing something? Check out the Lost and Found!

Each day I walk by the Lost and Found, which is directly across from the library and I wonder, "How could someone not know that they are missing a winter jacket?" Do you wonder that too? If you are missing clothing, including gloves, hats, sweatshirts, gloves, etc. make sure that you check out the Lost and Found.

One way to avoid having things fall into the abyss is to make sure you write your child's name on clothing items. If there is a name on it, we'll be sure to get it back to them. Put it on the inside tag or collar. Anywhere we can find it will be helpful.

Slackwood Elementary School

Slackwood is the oldest school in the Lawrence Township Public Schools. We provide education for students in grades Kindergarten through third grade.
