Weekly Tech Update 4/12 to 4/16

Rich Text Formatting Comes to Google Classroom!

Google Classroom recently had an update and you now have the ability to use rich text formatting while posting in the stream or on the classwork page. With the update you can now bold, italicize, and underline your font. It is also now easier to use bullets in a post by clicking on the bullet icon or using the CTRL+Shift+8 on a Chromebook or Windows device, or Option+8 on a mac.

Getting in Compliance

In an effort to get in compliance with New York State's Data Privacy and Security Policy (NYS Ed Law 2D), WCSD has to check and make sure that the sites, software apps, and tools that are utilized at school and with our students are compliant. If there are sites, software apps, and tools that you are using with your students, could you please take a second and fill out the form below to let us know what those sites, software apps, and tools are? Fill it out as a team, a department, or on your own.

Here is the link to the form: https://forms.gle/tmbzuGeP7dttjZ6S8 or you can access it by clicking on the form icon located to the right.

Here is a link to more information on Ed Law 2D (provided by MORIC and RIC ONE).

End of Year Project Ideas

If you need some inspiration for an end-of-the-year project, maybe this resource could help. Matt Miller's recently published a blog post, "The end is in sight..." In the blog post, Matt provides some inspirational ideas, templates, and examples of manageable project ideas. Maybe there is something in the post that can help get those wheels turning on an idea or give you an alternative way to think about an idea.

Summer PD Catalog Released

Ms. Eger-Converse recently released the summer catalog for professional development. Here is a link to the catalog in case you need it. Click here to access your Frontline account and you can get registered.

Get Stuff Done Club & InstaStrategies

The Get Stuff Done Club will hold two, one-hour zoom sessions, every Wednesday from 12 to 1 and then 1 to 2. If you can not attend at those times, the sessions will be recorded and uploaded to the Empower site. Every Wednesday will be a quick demonstration of an educational strategy from one of four popular educational books. The format of each session will be a quick demo (15 minutes or less) followed by Q & A and collaboration time.

1st Wednesday of the Month - Feel The Rush (EDrenanline Rush)

2nd Wednesday of the Month - Don't Kill the Wonder (Ditch That Textbook)

3rd Wednesday of the Month - What's the Protocol? (EDUProtocols)

4th Wednesday of the Month - What's the Play Coach? (DL Playbook)

To join the meeting this Wednesday, click HERE for the 12 o'clock session or HERE for the 1 o'clock session, or email me and I will send you the Zoom link directly. If you would like, you can register for each session below, and I will email you the link on Wednesday so that you don't have to search very far for links. See registration buttons below.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you are signed in with your district Zoom account or you will not be admitted from the waiting room. Sorry, I'd rather be safe than sorry!

New Entrants = Update Online Sites

It is always a good idea to update those online resources that we connect to Google Classroom. For instance, GoGuardian, EdPuzzle, and Quizizz. If you have a new entrant (or have had a student leave) in your Google Classroom, watch the tutorial below to see how you can update your rosters.

Join The InstaStragies Google Classrom

Feel free to join the InstaStrategies classroom. All the resources shared during the InstaStragies are posted here.

🚨 Who Got Caught? 🚨

Would you Mind Sharing?

It seems like it's been a year, but we made it through the first 6 months! I have been fortunate to witness colleagues finding their stride and using strategies and techniques that have helped with the start of this unprecedented school year. However, there are colleagues that could use some ideas on strategies and techniques that could help in their transition to this style of hybrid/remote learning. If you are willing to share, please click on the Google Form below so we can compile some strategies that have been effective for you. Just drop a quick note in the Google Form and I will be in touch. THANK YOU!!!

Feedback Welcomed and Encouraged

Please contact me so we can collaborate on how to integrate more technology into your lessons.
