Week Of May 3rd

Highlights from last week....

We hope you all had a wonderful vacation. The kids came back ready to learn!

In ELA, we learned about how we can help out at home. We learned about long A. Our sight words were help and too. Please continue to work with your child at home with their sight words.

In Math, we worked teen numbers.

In Science, we continued with our habitat unit and learned about the forest and the animals that live there. We learned about and created an owl, a fox, a bear, a raccoon and a deer.

A peek at our learning this week....

This week our class will be reading stories about how children can be good citizens. They will learn how to listen, share, help others, respect one another, work together, and take turns.

Here are some activities that you can do with your child to help reinforce the skills we will be practicing.

Word Workout

  • Vocabulary: citizen, respect Discuss ways your child can show good citizenship and respect for others at school and in the community.
  • My Words to Know

High-Frequency Words: play, has Write the words play and has on paper. Then have your child write each word. Think of sentences about good citizens that include each word. Write down the sentences on paper.

Category Words: farm animals During the week, your child will read about farm animals. Reinforce farm animal names by singing “Old MacDonald Had a Farm.”

Phonics: long i Use magnetic letters to build words with the long i sound, or you can use pencil and paper to do the activity.

In Math, we will continue learning about teen numbers.

We will be participating in a school wide book study on Ruby Bridges. We will learn about her and her contributions during our writing time.
