Happy New Year!

Hello Salem families,

Welcome back Track 1, 2, and 3! I hope you all enjoyed your short break. During those 10 days, teachers and staff worked very hard to prepare for the new year and it was a great time for us to also solidify our partnership. I look forward to another great year to serve you and your children. My hope for this year is to meet the needs of our students to support them academically and emotionally. Please continue to look for updates via monthly newsletters.

What's New?

Salem New 5th Graders Make a Pledge

At the end of their 4th grade year, our new 5th grade students had a chance to reflect on their leadership and what it means to be a role model to our younger students. They all came up with a character trait which they would like to work on throughout the year. Please help your child to continue the effort!

Reminder from the Salem Attendance Committee

It is widely understood that one of the most important factors leading to student success is attending school on a regular basis.

North Carolina Compulsory Attendance Law requires all enrolled students to attend school regularly. There are certainly situations over which we have no control. These excused absences would include absence due to:

• Illness or Injury

• Doctor’s appointment

• Death in the Family

• Religious Observance

• Court

The absence will be excused if a note from a parent or doctor is brought to school when the student returns.

We respectfully request that families refrain from taking their children out of school for additional vacation time. Such absences are unexcused and place an unnecessary burden on both students and teachers. Your support in ensuring our students' regular, on time attendance at school is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Salem Attendance Committee
