Summer Reading registrations begin June 1 at 10 a.m.

Get ready for a great summer!

Kids, teens, and adults will find a wide range of free events, programs, and reading challenges this summer. Be cool and enjoy the air conditioned libraries in Chepachet at the Glocester Manton Library and in Harmony at the Harmony Library as you find books, videos, and music to enjoy at home. Registration for children, teen, and adult programs begins on Thursday, June 1, at 10 a.m.

Special Glocester Event

Gardening, Glocester History, and Master Gardeners!

Family Garden Fair

Saturday, June 10, 9:30 a.m. – noon

Reuben Mason House, 1111 Putnam Pike (Route 44), Chepachet

Join the URI Master Gardeners, in collaboration with the Glocester Libraries, and the Glocester Heritage Society for an activity-packed morning. Bring the children for a garden-focused scavenger hunt, and entertaining nature stories. Have a sample of your soil tested and Master Gardener experts answer your gardening questions. There will be short talks on a variety of gardening topics as well as an opportunity to learn about Glocester’s history and the Glocester Heritage Society’s work to restore more than 150 cemeteries in Glocester. Harmony and Glocester Manton Libraries’ Craft Tables

Age Level: All Ages No registration required.

Youth of all ages, discover the indoor craft table at both libraries. Each library is different, so be sure to visit both places.


Weekly Take and Make Crafts

June 1 through June 30, during library hours, Harmony Library and Glocester Manton Library

Age Level: All Ages No registration required.

Children of all ages, visit both libraries weekly to pick up a craft! Craft kits will be different at each location. Some kits may require help for younger crafters.


Icelandic Independence Celebration

Saturday, June 17, 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Harmony Library

Age Level: All Ages

Ms. Pat, who works at the Circulation Desk, is going to Iceland! Join us to watch the highlights of her trip; try a sweet treat; and make fun Icelandic inspired crafts.


Tot Lot Story Time

Tuesday, June 20 and 27; July 11, 18, 25, and August 1, 10:30 a.m., Harmony

Age Level: Ages 2 to 5

Join us for the Tot Lot Story Time for songs, flannel board activities, and stories! At the end, join us on the Tot Lot for some fun in the sun. You can even bring lunch for a nice outdoor picnic at the library!


Audubon Story Time

Tuesday, June 20, July 11, and July 18, 4:30 p.m., Glocester Manton Library

Age Level: Ages 3 to 8

These Story Time programs for children include a story and a live animal. Topics could include the following: owls, hawks, turtles, snakes, frogs, dinosaurs, seeds, pollinators, insects, seasons, habitats, plants and gardens. Note: This is not for the entire session; please register for the dates you can attend.


Baby Story Time

Thursday, June 22 and 29; July 6, 13, 20, and 27, 10 a.m., Harmony Library

Age Level: Caregivers and children ages 0 to 2

Join us for Baby Story Time for songs, stories, play, and more! Note: This is not for the entire session; please register for the dates you can attend.


Minecraft

Thursday, June 22 and 29; July 6, 13, 20, 27, and August 3, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Harmony Library

Age Level: Ages 8 and up

Join us at the library to play Minecraft Bedrock edition! The library will be providing realms so only our library participants will be joining us. Four laptops will be available for use. If you need one to use, please register. Registration is not required if you are using your own device with Minecraft Bedrock on it.


Paws to Read

Monday, June 26, 6 p.m., Glocester Manton Library

Age Level: Ages 6 and up

Read to a furry friend! Register for a 15-minute session with a pet therapy dog and read to him. Please bring your own book or arrive early to pick one out.


LEGO Club - Pyramids and Monsters!

Tuesday, June 27 and July 25, 5 p.m., Glocester Manton Library

Age Level: Ages 5 and up

Your LEGO Building Challenge will be pyramids on June 27th and monsters on July 25th. After the challenge, we will give children the opportunity to get creative and build anything they choose with LOTS of LEGOS! They can work on their own creations or build as a team. The library will provide the LEGOs, while the children provide the imagination! We will then display your creations in the library.

Teen Jar Craft

Monday, June 26, 5 p.m., Harmony Library

Age Level: Ages 11 and up

Join us to make a fun jar craft! What will we make? The possibilities are endless.


Safe Sitters Class

Wednesday, June 28, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Glocester Manton Library

Age Level: Ages 11 to 14

Learn about important babysitting topics such as CPR, behavior management, injury prevention, and babysitting as a business. Registration is required, as well as a $50 check to Miriam Hospital and a signed registration and student contract form upon the start of class. This will be emailed to you prior to the class. Note: Bring a lunch.

Tuesday Movie Matinee

Enjoy a newly released movie on a big screen! Light refreshments are served. Bring a friend! The movies include:

Writers’ Group

Share your writing with your peers! The Harmony Library Writers’ Group is open to writers in all genres and forms, including poetry. In June, writers will read excerpts from their current work and discuss it. For information, phone Pat Kenny, Reference and Technology Librarian, at 949-2850.


Special Salute to Writers' Group members, Debbie Tillinghast and Barbara Ann Whitman! They will have their writing included in the eighth annual Association of Rhode Island Authors' (ARIA) Anthology entitled, In A Dark Time. Debbie's poem, "Alone," and Barbara's short story, "From Darkness into Light - Eddie's Story," were selected by the jury for the anthology to be published this fall. Congratulations, Debbie and Barbara!


Fearless Art

Wednesday, June 14 and June 28, 2 p.m., Glocester Manton Library

Adults of all ages and artistic abilities looking to experiment with painting and drawing are invited to join. We have created a supportive atmosphere for people to come together, explore art, find their own artistic style, and be inspired and influenced by others. Currently, we are exploring watercolor and will continue in that direction. This is a group-guided art adventure! Join the journey!


Travel to Ireland and Scotland with Roger Belisle

Monday, June 12, 6 p.m., Harmony Library

Retired travel agent Roger Belisle will join us to offer practical tips on travel to Ireland and Scotland. He will describe some of his favorite destinations in each location and will share anecdotes from his own travel over the years. Trip planning can be overwhelming, but Roger has strategies to help make it a breeze. Come with your questions! Roger Belisle worked as a travel agent for more than 40 years. He enjoys sharing his love of travel with others.


Weathered Wood Planter

Wednesday, June 21, 2 p.m., Glocester Manton Library

Learn how to make a beautiful rustic indoor planter using found materials. After finishing the planter, you will receive soil and a succulent to fill your planter. All materials will be supplied.


Flower Pot Painting for Adults

Tuesday, June 27, 6 p.m. and Wednesday, June 28, 10:30 a.m., Harmony Library

Just in time for the planting season, participants will paint a terracotta flower pot in lively summer colors and will add seasonal embellishments. All materials will be provided. Participants should register for only one class.

Note: Registration will open on Tuesday, June 6 at 6 p.m.

Join us for a discussion of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Copies of the book are available at the Harmony Library.
