Colt Weekly Update
There is No Straight Line to Success!
Colt Parents,
We are officially done with the first 20 days of school! Thank you for your patience and help during these first four weeks as we implement systems to keep our students safe and instruction going.
Our PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies) was a huge success. Our students learned the correct way to behave in our common areas and had the opportunity to participate in fun and exciting activities. Our three character pillars are SAFE, RESPONSIBLE AND RESPECTFUL. These are also part of our daily chant!
We had our first Saturday learning camp and we had a good turnout. We had many students who did not attend and we need your support with that. We are beginning with our Saturday camps early in order to work on content not accomplished rather than waiting until the Spring semester to try to catch up. Thank you for your support.
We continue to stress attendance and punctuality. Instruction begins at 7:45. If your child is arriving after that time, they miss breakfast, the daily announcements and will be marked tardy.
Students who have excessive absences and/or tardies will not be allowed to participate in any campus-based activities. Punctuality and attendance are life skills.
We thank you in advance for your efforts in helping us attain these goals.
Breakfast is served in the classroom from 7:30-7:45. Please ensure your child is on time to take advantage of the most important meal of the day. If your child arrives after 7:45, they are tardy.
During arrival and dismissal, we ask that you slow down and not use your cell phone. We are trying our best to move the traffic out quickly and efficiently through the parking lot.
Feel free to reach out to us if you have any comments, questions or concerns.
Educationally Yours,
Leticia Terrazas

The district is required by state law to notify you and obtain your consent for or denial of (opt-out) your child’s participation in age- appropriate prevention lessons on dating violence (grades 7-12), family violence, human trafficking, and child abuse.
Under state law, parents must provide consent for students to be able to participate in these lessons. Students will not be allowed to participate unless we receive consent. Under Texas law, you may exempt your child from participating in any part of the district’s prevention lessons regarding dating violence (grades 7-12), family violence, human trafficking, and child abuse.

When To Stay Home From School
Ms. L. Terrazas is Currently Reading:
Lead from Where You Are offers a down-to-earth, implementable approach to rethinking how we build leadership and community in schools. Desert Wind is a Texas Purple Star Distinction School
We are very excited to announce that Desert Wind is now a Texas Purple Star Distinction School.
The Purple Star Campus Designation recognizes Texas district and charter schools that show their support and commitment to meeting the unique needs of military-connected students and their families.
This special honor was created by the 86th Texas Legislature through SB 1557 and further described in agency rule (19 TAC, § 61.1063), effective April 9, 2020.
In August 2021, TEA will be awarding the Purple Star Campus designation for campuses that apply and meet the established criteria (see below). Campuses that are selected will receive a special Purple Star recognition to display on campus or on the school website. Campuses selected will also have their designation featured on the TxSchools.gov web page.
