WIN, Innovation Hour, and CAT Chats
At Center Elementary, our staff aims to work collaboratively with one another and with families to help every child grow, explore, and enjoy the learning process. To support this goal, our schedule includes three unique periods designed to help students and teachers innovate, collaborate, and grow.
Innovation Hour will take place a minimum of twice per month this year. During this time, students participate in design challenges focused on exploration and innovation. Students experience the design process, and collaborate with one another to invent, create, and celebrate new ideas.
Cat Chats are a new part of our weekly schedule this year. Every Monday, guest readers are coming in to your child’s homeroom to facilitate a read aloud activity while homeroom teachers participate in instructional collaboration time. Our theme for this read aloud time centers around innovation, inventors, and the design process. Guest readers may also read and facilitate activities using a read aloud book related to classroom instructional content.
Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions about the specific activities being done in his or her classroom. Thank you in advance for all you are doing at home to partner with us to help your child grow, explore, and enjoy learning!

Halloween Costumes, Parade, and Parties
While planning your child’s costume for our school parties, please put an emphasis on positive types of characters rather than representations of scary, violent, or fighting characters. As in the past, children will not be allowed to bring any type of toy weapon to school. Costumes may be complimented with face paint rather than masks. Bare midriffs and plastic toy shoes will not be permitted. Parents joining in the fun are welcome to also dress up, but again, masks may not be worn.
The parade will begin at 1:15 pm, followed by the parties at 1:45 pm. Sign-in for the parade and room parent helpers will begin at 1:00 p.m. Only those designated as room helpers ahead of time will be permitted to the rooms prior to the parade. After the parade, all guests are welcome to join the parties in the classrooms to help celebrate.
The snacks for this event are funded by CSA. The snacks for this party will be donuts, apples and apple juice. Donut ingredients are listed below. Please refrain from sending any additional food items with your child.

Participating in a parent/teacher conference is an opportunity for you and your child’s teacher to get a better perspective on your child’s educational growth and to share information which can benefit your child, the teacher, and yourselves. Preparing for the conference is essential for both teacher and parent. The following are tips that can help you prepare for the conference.
Before the Conference
1. Review your child’s test scores, papers, projects, etc.
2. Prepare specific questions you would like to discuss.
3. Think about situations that might be affecting your child’s behavior/performance and share this information with the teacher.
During the Conference
1. Be on time and conclude the conference on time.
2. Relax – your child is important to you and the teacher.
3. Ask for definitions or explanations of terms/things you do not understand.
4. Ask about classroom and homework expectations.
5. Find out how you can help your child be more successful in school.
6. If there are any concerns, work out a plan and set up a time for follow-up with the teacher.
After the Conference
1. Follow up on all suggestions made at the conference and communicate results to the teacher.
2. Keep track of your child’s progress at school and regularly review class work, homework, and tests.
3. Keep the lines of communication with the teacher open and feel free to share information and/or ask questions as needed to ensure your child’s success.
We hope your parent/teacher conference is a rewarding experience. During conference hours, our art, music and physical education teachers will be available for discussions as well.
