New Grade Level Library Titles
Saxe Middle School Library Literacy Promotion for 2019-20
Titles are selected on several criteria. Review of professional library journal recommendations, along with state and national awards, are considered. Next, each title is read and placed on grade level lists according to age-appropriate content, reading level and contribution to the curriculum. There are multiple copies available for each title. Please note that 'new to the list' does not necessarily mean new to publication.
~SAXE LIBRARY READING PROMOTIONS~2020
While grades 7 and 8 are encouraged to read the Connecticut Teen Nutmeg Book Nominees, this year, we will check in with teachers to see if the Kahoot battles could be expanded for these grade levels. Stay tuned for more.
Lastly, additional titles off the Connecticut Nutmeg Book Nominees list are broken down by grade levels. The library has multiple copies for student checkout. See the new lists here:

Biblionasium! A 'Goodreads' Platform for Kids!
The Saxe Library subscribes to BiblioNasium.
This digital platform that allows teachers, reading specialists, and students to keep track of independent reading. The platform works seamlessly with Destiny Quest too!
Teachers can set up a classroom where they can monitor student progress, recommend books, and promote reading through challenges. Students create virtual book shelves and can communicate about the books they are reading by sharing reviews, making recommendations, completing reading logs, and completing challenges and earning digital badges.
Furthermore, this tool can be used for classroom book clubs and the library can even assign reading promotion challenges (like Battle of the Books (grades 5/6) or Teen Nutmeg Books (grades 7/8) for students to aim to complete. Contact Mona for more information on how this platform can assist your classrooms.
