UPDATED WSD COVID-19 Protocols
Good afternoon, Wausau School District Families:
As we move forward in the 2021-22 school year, we want to take this opportunity to share an update with you about some changes to the District’s COVID-19 mitigation strategies following Monday night’s Board of Education meeting.
The Board approved two matrices, one for elementary schools and one for secondary schools, that are guidelines for analyzing case data. They are real tools that allow administrators, school staff, and nurses to collaborate around data and context to find the best actions to keep your students in school, in-person safely, and provide them with the highest quality education at the same time.
While you’ll notice differences between the elementary and secondary school matrices, the goal is the same: keeping your students safe while offering them the highest quality educational experiences at the same time.
Below is the elementary level matrix..

New: Bridge Room Now Available For Students at Hawthorn Hills Elementary
We are so fortunate to have been able to add a BRIDGE Room to Hawthorn Hills Elementary through the April 2021 Referendum funds.
BRIDGE Stands for:
Breathe
Reflect
Internalize
De-escalate
Grow
Exit
The Bridge Room is a physical space where learners can refresh, reflect, and reset in order to be able to return to their classroom ready to actively participate in their learning. It is meant to be a short-term alternative environment for a child who is not ready to learn, but is not exhibiting dangerous behaviors. All Hawthorn Hills Elementary students can access the Bridge Room when they need to through their teacher.
Mrs. Vanea Marten, who has been a paraprofessional for many years at John Marshall is our new Bridge Room Coordinator. Mrs. Marten will be giving students breaks, helping them reflect on challenges, and assisting them to be ready to return to their classrooms ready to learn.
If you have any questions about the Bridge Room, please feel free to reach out to Mrs. Maroszek for more information.
