PANTHER NEWS

OCTOBER 2021

Greetings Panther Families,

I hope your child has been enjoying their first few months of school. We absolutely love seeing our Panthers on campus each day. During the month of September, Citrus Cove hosted two very special guests: Deputy Superintendent, Mr. Edward Tierney, and our Board Member Mrs. Erica Whitfield. They both commented on how they could feel the positive school culture on campus, which was exhibited by seeing teachers enjoy teaching (genuinely caring for their students/treating them with respect) and students excited and engaged in learning. We are looking forward to the GRAND OPENING of our Cafeteria in mid-October! Thank you so much for your help in keeping our Panthers safe and healthy by not sending them to school if they are sick. We appreciate your partnership and remember... Panthers Believe, Achieve, & Succeed!

5TH GRADE SYMBOLIC MIGRATION PROJECT

Every year, since 1995, people from across the United States and Canada have created paper replicas of monarch butterflies. These paper monarchs are then shipped to Mexico for delivery to teachers and students who attend schools in two Mexican states: Michoacán and Mexico. Why these schools? The Cerro Pelon Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary is located in the state of Mexico, while the El Rosario and Sierra Chincua Monarch Butterfly Sanctuaries are located in the state of Michoacán.

Welcome to Mind Expanding City

The Second Grade Team has been working on the standard, SS.2.C.2.4: Identify ways citizens can make a positive contribution to their community. While learning about the 3 different types of communities, Ms. Romano's class was hard at work designing their own urban community! This student-centered project gave students the opportunity to choose and design their own building. Students then chose the placement for their buildings. Last, students wrote down possible city names and voted on one final name. Such creative fun!

STEAM ENGINE PTO FUNDRAISER: OCTOBER 25

Our school is hosting an exciting, whole-school fundraiser, STEAM Engine, starting MONDAY, OCTOBER 25TH! We are so excited for this fundraiser, because not only will it provide our school with much-needed funds but we will also earn new STEAM supplies for our classrooms.

A few things to note:

- This fundraiser will be very easy for you. It only requires about 10 minutes maximum from you.

- Your students are going to earn great prizes, just for their effort. No money required!

- This is an online, donation-based fundraiser, and the link can go to people you know anywhere in the world. That means, no direct pressure on your shoulders.

We are asking you to mentally SAVE THE DATE of our STEAM Engine kickoff – MONDAY, OCTOBER 25TH! Your students will be so excited to complete their Golden Ticket with you, and earn their prizes. This assignment must be done that night.

I will be sending a few more emails throughout the two-week fundraising period.

Thank you, in advance, for your support!

STEAM LAB IN ACTION

We are busy, in the STEAM lab, with our new unit on plants. Second and third graders are learning all about Jack and his beanstalk. We are studying the life cycle of a bean plant, making models of a bean seed, taking metric measurements of the giant, and making parachutes to get Jack safely away from the giant and down the beanstalk.
