Hutchison Middle School

Message from the Principal

September/October 2022

Hutchinson Families,

Thank you for a wonderful start to the school year! I hope you and your students are enjoying all that Hutchinson Middle School has to offer. Even though we are in the early stages of the fall semester school is in full swing. Classrooms are working hard getting to know each other, learning new material, and putting the IB Learner Profiles in practice! I have enjoyed visiting classrooms to see and listen to our students processing their learning.

Along with the start of school come all the extra curricular activities that our students are involved in! Band, Choir, Orchestra, Football, Volleyball, Cross Country, Tennis, and Swimming are all doing well in their concerts/meets/games. Students are having fun, learning their sports, and sharpening their skills. A Link to Rank1 for schedules is below.

I am always amazed at all the activities our students are involved in and how our teachers, coaches, parents, and students work together for a school life balance. They are learning such valuable skills of time management.

Fundraising & Information

Step It Up Fundraiser Update

A HUGE THANK YOU to every family that donated to our Step It Up Fundraiser. Yall have raised over $12,000 for our school! I am blown away by your donations and support and from every Hutch Faculty and Staff member, THANK YOU! We can’t wait to celebrate with our students at the Day of Awesomeness on 10/17! Funds raised will be used to provide learning materials for students and teachers, campus beautification projects, student incentives and rewards, and other campus needs. I will share the projects in future newsletters and on social media as they are completed.

Community in Schools

I am excited to announce that Hutch had added a Community in Schools (CIS) coordinator to our campus to help meet the needs of our students and families. Jerquann Lightbourne is serving as our CIS Coordinator and we are thrilled to have him on campus. He was worked as a CIS Coordinator at Lubbock High, Cavazos, McWhorter and is now starting our program at Hutch! The mission of CIS On the South Plains is to meet the needs of students in at-risk situations by improving academics, marketable skills, attendance, and behavior through the partnership of school, home, and community so that young people stay in school, learn successfully and prepare for life. Jerquann is excited to get to know Hutch and all of our students.
