Tech Tools for Teachers
fur.ly
Fur.ly is a URL shortening service that bundles multiple URLs together for easy sharing. Regardless of what content area or grade level you teach, this is a tool you can use both personally and professionally. With the click of a button, fur.ly links multiple website addresses, creates a small menu bar at the top of your browser pane, and displays both navigation arrows and a drop down menu to jump to sites in the bundle without toggling through the list. There are multiple ways a teacher could use this in the classroom. This would be a great option if you are creating a QR Code with multiple sites about the same topic or you could even use it for a test review. It is free...easy to use...and useful for students and teachers.
Watch this video to see how it works...so easy!
Simply copy and paste multiple URLs into the boxes
Once you hit "Go", it combines all of them into a single link.
Clicking on that link...the first webpage opens..and a colored bar appears to help you navigate to the other sites easily
This fur.ly bar also provides a drop-down menu that enables you to choose a specific site to visit
How Can It Be Used in the Classroom?
- Introduce students to internet research, but control the websites they have access to
- Develop a WebQuest for your students to research a particular topic
- Add instructional videos to a homework assignment for extra help
- Organize websites for your students to visit during center time
- Allow students to take their learning deeper by sharing websites related to classroom lessons you have taught
- Add websites to a classroom blog
- Organize websites for a lecture or presentation to prevent your audience from watching you scramble to type in long web addresses
You definitely want to add fur.ly to your tech toolbox
