Aprons for Art

We are hoping to collect a class set of aprons for the art room so students can paint using acrylic paints without a fear of ruined clothes. If you have an extra apron or two at your house, please consider sending them to the Southeast front office.

1st Grade Service Project: Camp Quality

At Southeast we believe that Change Starts with Us! First grade is doing a service project for kids with cancer. Camp Quality serves children with cancer and their families by providing year-round programs, experiences, and companionship at no cost while helping them to develop their full potential. To support Kids with Cancer, bring a donation of a $1.00 (or more). Everyone may wear pajamas to school on Thursday, September 26th.

Thanks in advance for your help supporting these first graders in their efforts to make a difference!

POSTPONED: Donuts with Dad

Due to the safety concerns and parking lot logistics created by the Northwood construction project, we have decided to postpone Donuts with Dad, which was set for Sept. 24th. We will set a new date for later in the year. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Watch D.O.G.S.

What is it?

What would I be doing?
You would spend time with small groups of students helping them practice math facts, read stories, or play games.

Volunteers

Volunteers are important to the success of the Park Hill School District, and we appreciate their service to our schools. In order to keep our children safe, all volunteers who might ever be around students without an employee present must be screened. The screening packet can be accessed HERE.

Family Feedback Survey

You should have received an invitation to participate in our annual Park Hill Parent/Guardian survey, which will be open until October 4th. The email from Panorama will have a unique link to access your survey. Panorama is a third party administrator that keeps all of the data from our survey strictly confidential.

If you do not have access to the email with the survey link, this link will take you to our school’s survey. The Southeast access code is: 3499804515

We will share the results with the public after the survey window closes. Thank you in advance for completing your parent/guardian survey as we use the results to monitor our strategic measures and continuously improve Park Hill.

If you have any questions, please email Dr. Mike Kimbrel.

Attendance

Attendance is one of the most important factors in academic achievement and we would like your help regarding attendance and punctuality. When students arrive late or leave early consistently, they miss important instructional time. Missouri guidelines require 90% of our students to be in attendance 90% of the time. To help meet this goal, Park Hill has established expectations for attendance and letters will be sent to families if the following attendance percentages are not met.

Level 1: Attendance rate of 90%

Level 2: Attendance rate between 85% and 90%

Level 3: Attendance rate is below 80%

Ms. Hart, our School Social Worker, will be working with students and families to make sure we meet the 90/90 goal at Southeast Please help us by making being at school a priority for your family.

If your child does have to be absent, please call the school office (359-4360) to report the student's absence. If the school does not receive a call when a student is absent, we will attempt to contact you to check on the student.

Social Worker Spotlight

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing tips and facts to help improve attendance—

  • Fact of the week— It is never too early to start caring about attendance. By 6th grade, chronic absenteeism becomes a leading indicator that a student will drop out of high school.

A Note from Ms. Frayer, Our School Counselor

September is Suicide Prevention Month, and there are fun, informative events being hosted all over Kansas City. The Briarcliff Life Fest will focus on suicide prevention but it will also have wellness activities and free therapy services throughout the day. If you’re in the market for a therapist or you're looking to get more information on mental health for personal or professional reasons, this may be a good event to attend. Box Top Popsicle Party Contest

The contest submission dates September 18 - October 2. The class that collects the most Box Tops will have a popsicle party!

Box Tops is running a special promotion, and families can earn DOUBLE POINTS on purchases made prior to September 22 and scanned within 14 days.

You might be thinking, "Scanned?" Traditional Box Tops clips are being phased out of production, but continue to be found on many products throughout the store. You can still clip them and send them to school. Every valid Box Tops is worth $0.10 for our school. Make sure each one has a clearly visible product acronym and expiration date.

Eventually, the Box Tops program will become digital-only. Participating brands are starting to change their packaging from a traditional Box Tops clip to the new Box Tops label. If you see the label pictured, use the new Box Tops app to scan your receipt. Box Tops are still worth $0.10 for our school. The app will find participating products purchased at any store and instantly add cash to our school's earnings online.

Do You Know A Park Hill Star?

The Park Hill Star recognition program was started in 2015 to celebrate support staff and teachers whose work is especially noteworthy.

The following is an overview of the Park Hill Star Program:

Our employees are the reason we are so successful here in the Park Hill School District, and we would like to recognize them for all they do for our students.
That is why we present the Park Hill Star award once a month to a pre-K or elementary teacher, a secondary teacher and a support employee.

Southeast Communication

You will find several ways to stay up to date on school activities throughout the year on the Southeast website , Facebook, Twitter and newsletters from your child’s teacher. You will also occasionally get an automated email or voicemail message sent to you by the school with important information and reminders. We know two-way communication is best, so please feel free to call, email, or stop by the school with any questions you may have regarding your child’s education.
