Silver Springs PTA: News for you

Every child. One voice.

9/15/2021 MEETING WRAP UP

Thank you to those who attended our first PTA meeting. It was great to see you in person (and see some of the changes to Silver Springs!), and meet new parents.

We have volunteers supporting birthday lunches (more hands needed), yearbook, spirit wear, and looking into gaga ball pit flooring. But we have many more needs to fill.

Thanks to your generosity, the PTA provided popsicles to all students on Friday 9/17 and received some AWESOME thank you notes from Mr. Kiebler's 4th grade class. (see below)

We will providing a staff treat this week.

If we can get to 75 PTA members (currently around 60) by October 1st, Mrs Booth will allow each student to toss a water balloon at her! Help us reach our goal!! (And if you have extra water balloons, we are happy to accept them: send to the office with "Attention PTA".)

At out 11/10 meeting, we will vote to add Eboard officer(s), approve a budget, and hear from our guest speaker, Mrs. Chenoweth, who is coordinating the STEAM program in our elementary schools!

We look forward to a great 2021-22 school year!

Be well.

Big picture

What is the Silver Springs PTA?

Simply, the PTA is a group of parents that have organized to work to help children thrive and learn — that means fundraising, educating parents, helping teachers/staff, and advocating for legislation to ensure every child gets a high-quality education. We hope each family and teacher joins our PTA to show commitment and support to our PTA and all the things we provide for Silver Springs.

What programs do we sponsor?

  • Junior Enrichment Series (JES) - the PTA spends about $10,000 each year on various educational enrichment programs and assemblies for all students

  • Teacher Class Allocations- money allocated to teachers to help offset classroom expenditures

  • Learning Resources for all the students to use (past examples Moby Max and Time For Kids)

  • Breakfast with a Buddy – light breakfast before school with parent(s) or “buddy”

  • Fun Fair – family night with food, games and activities

  • Daddy Daughter Dance – special themed night for Dads & Daughters

  • Science Fair, Kindergarten Round-Up and March is Reading Month activities

  • Teacher and Staff Appreciation & Hospitality Events

  • Yearbook – volunteers coordinate the much-anticipated yearbook

  • School Directory – volunteers create a school directory with family names, addresses, email, class lists, school calendar and teacher/staff list.

  • Lunch Hour – volunteers help students during lunch time

  • LAN (Legislation Action Network) – inform parents about legislation affecting schools

How can you get involved?

Join the PTA, receive our emails, attend meetings, VOTE, volunteer to chair an event!

The PTA has 5 meetings during the school year to stay informed and learn how to get involved at Silver Springs.

Join the PTA at below (or see the form on the 9/13 Monday envelope)

If we get 75 members by October 1st, Mrs. Booth will participate in a water balloon toss. EACH student will get to toss a water balloon at Mrs. Booth!

How do we fund-raise?

Our main source of funds is the Invest in Your Child Fundraiser in the fall. We encourage each family to make a donation instead of Fun Runs and students selling items. The Silver Springs PTA spends approximately $75 per student each year. 100% of donations provide educational enrichment programs for our children. We are looking at other exciting opportunities.

Each family who donates will be entered in a drawing to assist Mrs. Booth and be her special assistant for 1 hour. We hope to have 4 assistants!
