9/15/2021 MEETING WRAP UP
We have volunteers supporting birthday lunches (more hands needed), yearbook, spirit wear, and looking into gaga ball pit flooring. But we have many more needs to fill.
Thanks to your generosity, the PTA provided popsicles to all students on Friday 9/17 and received some AWESOME thank you notes from Mr. Kiebler's 4th grade class. (see below)
We will providing a staff treat this week.
If we can get to 75 PTA members (currently around 60) by October 1st, Mrs Booth will allow each student to toss a water balloon at her! Help us reach our goal!! (And if you have extra water balloons, we are happy to accept them: send to the office with "Attention PTA".)
At out 11/10 meeting, we will vote to add Eboard officer(s), approve a budget, and hear from our guest speaker, Mrs. Chenoweth, who is coordinating the STEAM program in our elementary schools!
We look forward to a great 2021-22 school year!
What is the Silver Springs PTA?
Simply, the PTA is a group of parents that have organized to work to help children thrive and learn — that means fundraising, educating parents, helping teachers/staff, and advocating for legislation to ensure every child gets a high-quality education. We hope each family and teacher joins our PTA to show commitment and support to our PTA and all the things we provide for Silver Springs.
What programs do we sponsor?
Junior Enrichment Series (JES) - the PTA spends about $10,000 each year on various educational enrichment programs and assemblies for all students
Teacher Class Allocations- money allocated to teachers to help offset classroom expenditures
Learning Resources for all the students to use (past examples Moby Max and Time For Kids)
Breakfast with a Buddy – light breakfast before school with parent(s) or “buddy”
Fun Fair – family night with food, games and activities
Daddy Daughter Dance – special themed night for Dads & Daughters
Science Fair, Kindergarten Round-Up and March is Reading Month activities
Teacher and Staff Appreciation & Hospitality Events
Yearbook – volunteers coordinate the much-anticipated yearbook
School Directory – volunteers create a school directory with family names, addresses, email, class lists, school calendar and teacher/staff list.
Lunch Hour – volunteers help students during lunch time
LAN (Legislation Action Network) – inform parents about legislation affecting schools

How can you get involved?

The PTA has 5 meetings during the school year to stay informed and learn how to get involved at Silver Springs.

How do we fund-raise?

Each family who donates will be entered in a drawing to assist Mrs. Booth and be her special assistant for 1 hour. We hope to have 4 assistants!
Support the PTA everyday!! Did you know you can support the PTA during your everyday errands?
1. Create a digital account. A digital account is needed to participate in Kroger Community Rewards. If you already have a digital account, simply link your Shopper’s Card to your account so that all transactions apply toward the organization you choose.

PTA Committee Details
After School Science
Coordinate days/dates with Nuts About Science and confirm with office. Sessions are signed up online. Send out flyer every 3 months and send roster to teachers. Dates set up in August and send out flyer every 3 months in Eagle Express.
Birthday Lunch Celebrations
Collect forms/donations and record birthday day lunch requests on spreadsheet. Send confirmations to student. Give updated info and money to Treasurer. Set up birthday table on requested date. Need to be available to set up and clean up tables on the dates. Once the initial forms are received…a little time updating info.
Work with your committee to help plan school wide contests. Promote families joining on-line box tops.
Breakfast with a Buddy
Coordinate all aspects of the breakfast that takes place in May including donations, volunteers, set-up and clean-up.
Coordinate annual event – theme, decorations, food, activities, music, and craft with committee. Planning starts a few months before dance usually in April or May.
Family Fun Fair
Coordinate annual event - decorations, food, games & activities with your committee. Planning starts a few months before the event in February or March.
Get updated address/email info from parents and compile info into computer. Get printed and distribute to PTA members only.
Coordinate all aspects of helping our school go “green”. Plan an event or activity for Earth Day (April 22). Time depends on events planned.
Grounds & Signs
Changing the dates/events on the front entry sign every month if possible. Decorate the front entrance walk for the seasons or holidays. Monthly for an hour or so.
Health & Wellness (Filled)
Coordinate activities associated with healthy educational programs (Ideas may be a walking club at recess, fitness class in gym after school for students or adults) Time depends on events planned.
Coordinate all aspects of this event in December for students to make holiday craft(s).
Coordinate all aspects of the staff conference fall dinner and spring lunch (Nov & April) A few hours to make sign up and coordinate each event. Coordinate Staff Holiday Cookie Exchange in December. Other fun treats or celebrations can be added. Usually a Welcome Back breakfast treats in September.
JES (Junior Enrichment Series)
Coordinate all grade level and school wide assemblies, plus arranging for author in March. Time involved scheduling and meeting with guest at school. Making sure payments ae arranged.
Put together a learning workbook and pencil (usual gift) for new K students with a welcome letter from the PTA before K Round Up. A few hours to get and prepare.
Act as the LAN representative from Silver Springs. Keep informed on PTA legislation and Advocacy news. Brief update at PTA meetings and update Executive Board when necessary.
Lunch Tray Recycling
Coordinate volunteers to recycle trays. About every 2 weeks take pizza boxes to Novi to the recycling center.
Coordinate volunteers in the lunchroom. Use signupgenius.com to allow committee members to choose a flexible schedule. Send out each month.
Coordinate the evening with the families sharing their country with various activities like a fashion show or demonstrating talents. One and done.
Gather all information on PTA membership enrollments, provide tax letter to members and monies to treasurer.
Coordinate all documents and compile monthly school newsletter. Each month newsletter comes out.
Reflections PTA National Program
Coordinate all aspects of the event with collecting entries, celebration night & submitting entries to state. Some time involved throughout the year especially when entries are judged, due to state, and coordinating celebration. Important event since all the schools participate and part of the National PTA.
Coordinate dates for parties. Put up posters and send home fliers. About an hour get promo out before each party. About 4-5 parties a year.
Edu School Kits
Coordinate classroom teacher requests. .Put up signs and inform parents of ordering kits. Count kits, label with last name, and distribute kits in August before Open House. A few hours involved and distributing to the classes.
Coordinate all aspects of the fair and awards celebration. One and done.
Coordinate ordering and delivery of spirit wear items. Limited time involved to coordinate with online store and distribute items.
Teacher Appreciation Week
Coordinate activities for the first week in May. Time involved that week and preparing a few weeks ahead.
Update the website on a regular basis with new forms, minutes, information from committee chairs and newsletters.
Coordinate all aspects of the yearbook including distribution. Time involved coordinating sales. Time involved taking pictures and preparing yearbook with pictures.
Highlighted Committees in need of help! Many of these have not been filled for the past few years, so new ideas are welcome!
