Whiteley Wildcat Update

January 10, 2020

Welcome Back! It was wonderful seeing our students back at school this week. They were so excited to share with us about their winter break adventures. Our teachers were ready with some great activities to engage them in learning during their first week back. My favorite part of the week was having students share their writing ideas with me. Today, it was fun to see how creative some of our students were with Decades Day! We are looking forward to a great 2020 filled with learning

5 Essentials Survey

Last month we sent out a letter to our families in regards to our 5 Essentials survey. This survey allows us to collaborate with our families and provides an opportunity for parents to provide feedback. This survey is extremely important as it becomes part of our school report card that is issued by the state. Please take a moment to take the 5 Essentials survey. You can access the survey at https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/. Thank you for taking time to complete the survey.

Valentine’s Day Parties

Our PTA will be overseeing our parties on Valentine’s Day. We are so fortunate to have parents able to provide wonderful parties for our students. As a reminder, with our district’s food and wellness party there will be no food provided at these parties. Students will be allowed to pass out any candy at the party or to be sent home. If you wish information in regards to the district’s Health & Wellness Policy you can access the information on the website through this link

P.B.I.S Highlight

During the month of January students are participating in social emotional learning (SEL) lessons focused on goal setting and positive self talk. Primary students are learning to breathe through challenges and reach for the stars when goal setting. Intermediate students are learning to make SMART goals. SMART stands for; Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Timely

Share Bin/Table

Starting the week of January 20th we will introduce the share table to our students during lunch. There will be a bin on each table in the cafeteria. Students may place approved items in the bin that they do not wish to eat. If a student is still hungry after finishing his or her meal, they may take any item from the bin on the table. Perishable items will be stored in a refrigerator. I have provided a letter from our district that is attached within this email.

Registration for kindergarten and new students is now open! Registration is online and you do not need to come to our school unless you need assistance. If you have an incoming student we encourage families to register soon so we can effectively plan for the upcoming school year. You can find out more information on our district website or through this link.
