Homecoming Week
It’s an exciting time of the year with Homecoming Week right around the corner! Homecoming is a special time each fall where we bring our students, staff, alumni, and community together to celebrate our incredible school. We kicked off Homecoming activities this past week with the selection of the homecoming court. These 10 students were selected based on leadership, participation, attitude, and scholarship. We have a long standing tradition at Snohomish High School called the “Serpentine” parade. The parade started in 1958 and it is a unique opportunity for Snohomish Panthers to unite with the community to show our school spirit and pride. No other activity that we do brings us together more than the Serpentine parade during Homecoming week. We hope you can come out on Friday and join us for the parade! Before heading to the Homecoming football game on October 13, stop by the SHS Library from 5:00-6:00 p.m. for an open house to view Panther Alumni memorabilia. We’ll have yearbooks, scrapbooks, newspapers, photos, and more on display!
Go Panthers!

College & Career Center
College Visits
College visits are now happening in-person in the SHS College & Career Center (B208), during Panther Period and afterschool. A college visit at SHS is a great way to learn about colleges you might be interested in. During a college visit, students can find out about the college application process, what campus life it like, available scholarships and what to expect as a freshman. By attending a college visit, you are not committed to the school. Check out the College Visit Calendar! All grade levels are welcome, and no signup is required.
College Application Deadlines
Seniors - if you plan on attending a four-year college or university, please visit the college websites for all the colleges you plan on applying to and find the application deadline and the scholarship application deadline (if they have a separate scholarship application). Early Washington college application deadlines include University of Washington, Seattle…November 15; Northwest University, Kirkland…November 15; Gonzaga University, Spokane…December 1. Application Fees and Deadlines for Washington Colleges and Universities.
Seniors, if you are in need of a letter of recommendation, for an application or scholarship, please fill out the Letter of Recommendation Fillable form, save it, print and provide it to the person writing the letter.
WSU Regents Scholarship
Seniors planning on attending Washington State University next fall, please consider applying for the WSU Regents Scholarship ($4000 scholarship for four years, totaling $16,000). Snohomish High School can nominate two high-achieving and motivated seniors for this scholarship. Eligible students must have a 3.6 GPA or above. Other Regents Scholarship criteria can be found here. These recipients will then compete for the Distinguished Regents Scholars Award, which provides full tuition and mandatory fees for up to 18 credits per semester, for four years. Please contact me if you would like to be considered for these nominations.
NACAC National College Fair in Seattle
The NACAC National College Fair will be in Seattle at the Seattle Convention Center, on October 6 and 7. When you attend a national college fair, you have the opportunity to learn about and connect with admission representatives from colleges across the country, in a short amount of time. When you sign up, you will get a bar code to share with the colleges instead of having to fill out info cards for each school. To learn more or register click here.
Times and dates of the NACAC National College Fair in Seattle:
October 6, 2023
9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Sno-Isle Technical Skills Center Application and Open House
If you are interested in attending Sno-Isle Technical Skills Center for the 24-25 school year, the application opens on Thursday, November 2 at 4 p.m. It is suggested that you go onto their website and under "Apply Now" make your Survey Monkey account now, so you will be ready to just fill out the application on the 2nd at 4 p.m.
Also, on Thursday November 2nd from 6-8 pm. Sno-Isle Tech Skills Center will have an open house. On their campus, that evening, families can learn about the Skills Center’s twenty-two programs, what application-based learning looks like, and how to apply for the 24-25 school year. If you have questions, there will be program instructors there to answer those.

Nurses Corner
As we approach cold and flu season, the following information is important to remember:
Is your child too sick for school?
As a parent/guardian, you can help prevent the spread of illness by not sending a sick child to school. In determining whether to keep your child home, we encourage you to familiarize yourself with the following guidelines. Learn more and additional resources available at www.sno.wednet.edu/healthservices.
- Appearance and behavior – A child that is difficult to wake, unusually tired, pale, irritable and/or lacking in normal appetite should remain at home. These symptoms could indicate the onset of illness.
- Fever – A temperature of 100.4 F (38C) or higher suggests infectious illness. Your child must be fever free for 24 hours (without fever reducing medication) before returning to school. Please note that if your child has a fever during school hours, they need to stay home the following school day. This means it may be greater than the 24-hour period.
- Cold symptoms or COVID-19 symptoms: The symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, shortness of breath, body aches, new loss of taste or smell, cough (new, changes, or worsening), nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, congestion or sore throat. With any of these symptoms, individuals should stay home and should be tested for COVID-19. If testing positive, individuals should stay home for five days (first day of symptoms is day zero). If testing is negative, individuals can return if symptoms have significantly improved, and they are fever free for 24 hours without medication. Note: A limited supply of COVID-19 rapid testing supplies are available for free to students, staff, family, and community members at every district school. In addition, every U.S. household can order and receive four free COVID-19 rapid tests delivered to their home through USPS.
- Sore throat: A severe sore throat or sore throat that is worsening or not improving could be strep throat even if there is no fever. Other symptoms of strep throat are headache and stomach upset. Keep your child home from school and have your child medically evaluated. If strep has been diagnosed, students may return to school as early as 24 hours after antibiotic treatment begins.
- Eyes – White or yellow drainage from the eye, altered vision, and/or redness of the eye lid or skin surrounding the eye requires medical evaluation and provider clearance for school return. Pink eye is highly contagious.
- Ear infections without fever – Please have your child medically evaluated as repeated ear infections can cause permanent hearing loss. School exclusion is not necessary unless your child is uncomfortable.
- Diarrhea and/or vomiting – Three or more watery stools in a 24 -hour period and two or more episodes of vomiting in the past 24 hours is a reason to keep your child at home. Please keep your child home for 24 hours after the last episode (without medication). If episodes of diarrhea and/or vomiting happen at school, please keep your child home the following school day or until free of incident for at least 24 hours. A single episode of diarrhea or even vomiting, unaccompanied by any other symptoms, may not be reason enough for the student to miss school – it is best to look at your child’s overall condition in determining if they are well enough to attend school. If you do decide to send your child, please be sure that you are available to pick your child up if their condition worsens.
- Rash with fever or behavior change – This may indicate an infectious illness. Please have your child medically evaluated and keep your student at home until they have received provider clearance for school return.
- Chicken pox – Your child may return to school when all blisters have formed scabs and there is no evidence of new blister formation. This may take five to seven days from onset of blisters.
- Open wounds – Open wounds must be kept covered with a dressing that is taped on all four sides. Any wound that appears to be infected should be evaluated by a medical professional.
If you have any questions or would like additional clarification, please do not hesitate to call me at 360-563-4013.
Thank you,
Nurse Kris
