Comment period closing for first proposal on new school zones
Have you looked at the maps yet?
We'd love to know what you think.
We had good turnout last week at our open house on the first proposal for attendance zone changes from our Boundary Review Committee. Even if you were unable to join us, you can still comment on the proposed new maps. The deadline to submit comments is 2 PM tomorrow, Tuesday, January 28. You will have another opportunity to give us feedback when the committee releases its revised proposal next month.
EXPLORE THE PROPOSED ZONES: To see which elementary, middle and high school zones your residence is in under the first proposal, search by your address using our school locator tool and touch or click the map next to your residence. You may also look here at the maps for Proposal No. 1.
HOW TO COMMENT: After reviewing the proposal, we invite you to share your thoughts using this brief comment form. Your comments will go to the members of the Boundary Review Committee for consideration in their ongoing work.
Save the date: Open House No. 2, plus Board listening session on exemptions from student transfer
Our Boundary Review Committee is scheduled to meet three times in the next few weeks to continue working on a proposal for revised school attendance zones. Then we will show you what the committee has in mind and ask again for your feedback.
The second OPEN HOUSE on the proposed new maps for elementary, middle and high school zones will be Tuesday, February 18, 6-8 PM, at Woodland Middle School. We encourage you to stop by at any time during this 2-hour event, learn about the proposal, ask questions and share your comments.
Your Board of Trustees also will be at Woodland that evening for another listening session on potential exemptions from transfer (grandfathering of students) related to the new attendance zones. The Trustees will be available from 5:30 to 6:15 PM and again from 7:45 to 8:30 PM to listen to parents, guardian and students who wish to address this topic.
3-part podcast explores the boundary review process
Feeling a little lost about this whole boundary review discussion? We can get you caught up with our new weekly podcast, The Sup is On, featuring Superintendent Steven Cook.
Dr. Cook and Jeff Voeller, our Director of Operations, provide an overview of this effort to update attendance zone boundaries in a series of three episodes. Listen to them now:
this week: your chance to catch a free showing of screenagers
Are you watching your kids scroll through life with their rapid-fire thumbs and a six-second attention span? Are you concerned how this affects them now and into adulthood?
We invite you to watch the award-winning docuemtary SCREENAGERS, free of charge, this Tuesday at 6:30 PM at Hayden Discount Cinemas. This film is recommended for ages 10 and up. (Then look for the sequel here next month!)
In SCREENAGERS, physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston learned that the average kid spends 6.5 hours a day looking at screens. She wondered about the impact of all this time and about the friction occurring in homes and schools around negotiating screen time—friction she knew all too well.
Delaney takes a deeply personal approach as she probes into the vulnerable corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Through poignant, and unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, SCREENAGERS reveals how tech time impacts kids’ development and offers solutions on how adults can empower kids to best navigate the digital world and find balance.
