In math, we will introduce financial literacy. April has been declared Financial Literacy Month. Jessica Cain, from American Bank of Texas presented a financial literacy lesson to our 1st graders today. Jessica is a former VAISD student. Some of the terms discussed were: spending, saving, earning, and charity. Please make a point to use these terms at home to help your child gain a better understanding of financial literacy.

Number Sense

This is one of our favorite times of the day. Your children light up when we work on 'Number Sense'. At the beginning of the year it started out as number bonds, two numbers added together that would equal the number of the day. Well, that didn't last long because the kids wanted to add and subtract to build the number of the day. As you can see they are now going above and beyond what I would have guessed. I'm so proud of their mental math!

Earthworms...a motivational writing tool!

In Science, we will be kicking off our Animal Research PBL. This is such a fun unit for the students. It is student driven learning! Our campus purchased a kid friendly research database. We will be completing the research at school, but some of the kids like to research at home as well. Here is the link to Pebble Go. http://www.pebblego.com/login/. Here is the login information if your child would like to read about their animal at home. username: vanalstynees password: school

Making a Terrarium
