The purpose of the form is to gather parent input to assist with creating balanced class lists for the upcoming school year. Requests for specific teachers are not accepted. Parents will be notified at Parent Packet PickUp on August 22nd.
District Calendar for 2018-2019
Just a reminder… The start date for the 2018-2019 school year is Monday, August 27, 2018. This information was first published in June 2016 following the announcement of collaboration time and the addition of nine student days over three years.
Starting before Labor Day is a change in practice, so we want to make sure parents are aware. Please download the calendar below, or visit the District calendar webpage to view other important dates and calendars in several other languages.
Kindergarten Registration is Open!
Kindergarten registration for Fall 2018 is now open to Beaverton resident students. Students must be five years of age on or before September 1st, per State Statute, and live within the attendance boundary of our school. We invite you to register early as this assists us in confirming enrollment for staffing purposes. Please present a birth certificate or passport that the office may copy for your child's enrollment file. Beaverton School District provides full-day kindergarten in all elementary schools. You will receive more information at Kindergarten Round Up, scheduled for April 12th. Feel free to share this information with your neighbors who have their first child starting kindergarten next fall.
Take the Annual Parent Survey
Please take a few moments to complete the BSD Annual Parent Survey during the month of April! The survey helps us to evaluate our progress in educating your child and planning for the future. Our goal is to ensure that every member of our school community feels welcomed, valued, and informed, so it is important for all parents/guardians to complete the survey. The survey data will be summarized so that each person who answers will remain anonymous.
A link to the 2018 Annual Parent Survey will be sent to all valid parent email addresses via SchoolMessenger today, Monday, April 2, 2018. The deadline to participate is Friday, April 20, 2018. You can view a copy of the survey in both English and Spanish on the Research & Reports webpage.
2018 Annual Elementary & Middle School Student Surveys
Each year the District surveys students to gather information for planning, program evaluation, and assessments of progress on the District’s Strategic Plan. The 2018 surveys for elementary and middle school students will be given to students April 9-June 15, 2018.
The student survey takes about 20 minutes during the regular school day. The data gathered from the surveys are anonymous; your child will not put his/her name or other identifying information on the survey.
Student surveys in middle schools include three optional questions for students to identify their gender, ethnicity/race, and sexual orientation. These questions allow for additional levels of analysis of questions on inclusion, safety and bullying.
Your child may skip questions or stop filling out the survey at any time. Refusing to participate or withdrawing from the survey does not affect your child's grades or class standing in any way. If you or your child do not want to participate, your child can read or do some other activity while his or her classmates complete the survey.
Copies of all 2018 Student Surveys are available on the District’s Research & Reports webpage, or at your child’s school. After reviewing the survey, if you do not want your child to participate, please notify their school.

Art Literacy
2018 has brought an exciting line-up of Art Literacy projects to Findley!
In January, the artist Bev Doolittle inspired students to create colorful and interactive camouflaged artworks on paper using color sticks.
During the months of February and March, the Canadian Inuit was the artistic inspiration for abstracted animal soap carvings.
In April, students will learn about the work of contemporary theorist of color, Carlos Cruz-Diez, and broaden their understanding of additive and subtractive use of color.
Looking ahead, May will introduce the work of Marc Chagall to students, and will encourage dream-like imagery and using complementary colors in their art productions.
Thank you to all volunteers that continue to help keep our Art Lit program strong and running smoothly!!!
