Barbed wire, the tool of the war of westward expansion and the invention that destroyed an industry. In other words, farmers used barbed wire to stop ranchers from accidentally invading un marked farm land, which while boosted the farming economy, devastated the ranching economy.
How it came to be
Barbed wire is even used today to protect minor property for cheap while being effective. Barbed wire has even been a tool of war to control flow of the battlefield and to slow down enemy advances.
Interesting Fact
Barbed wire was so important during the westward expansion age that from 1875 to 1885 consumption of barbed wire jumped from 300 tons to 130,000 tons.
