-His daughter married, and divorced, Alessondro from the Medici family. Alessondro remarried, the dutches of Parma.

-Inherited a huge empire from his grandparents.
-Inherited territories from, Europe, Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, the southern half of Italy, and Spain, along with Spain's American colonies.
-Age twenty (20), Charles ruled a vast empire.
-His brother meant a lot to him.
-Met his challenges with varying success. One of the earliest was the demand to re form, in the Catholic church, led by Martin luther.
-Fighting for supremacy in Italy against king Francis the first (1st), ruled (1515/1547.) In battle of Pavia in 1525 french forces were defeted, by the Spanish army, and Francis was captured. He was forced to sign the humiliating treaty of Madnd in 1526, in which he handed lands in Italy, and bergind to Charles.
-The portrait of Charles/ he was on his horse, dating from 1519. It was painted by the sixteenth (16th) century Venetian artist, titian.
