Digital Learning Academy Newsletter
November 2020
Dear DLA Families,
Welcome to November! I am so very thankful for so many blessings, including the grace, patience and flexibility our DLA families have continued to show us. We were humbled by such a positive response from the Parent Satisfaction Survey plus all of the gracious and kind comments that families took the time to write. We appreciate your feedback and will use it to improve our program.
November always seems like such a "quick" month with all of the school happenings and holidays. Please make sure to look at the important dates. There is a link below for dates and times of school pictures. If your child's school says "TBD" please check back regularly for updates as it hasn't been finalized at some school sites.
Attendance is critical to the success of our students. Although we are an online learning model and we do have asynchronous learning, it is important for your child to attend all classes daily when they have live sessions with their teacher.
Finally, check out our Conscious Discipline for Parents section to provide social and emotional support for our online learners and families at home.
Wishing you well,
Marlene Capristo

Synchronous vs. Asynchronous Learning
Synchronous learning means that although you will be learning from a distance, you will virtually attend a class, at the same time as your teacher and classmates.
Asynchronous learning allows you to learn on your own schedule, where you access and complete learning activities at anytime away from the class.
What does this look like? With teacher-created videos and interactive lessons, instruction that used to occur in class is now accessed at home. Class becomes the place of small groups where the teacher reteaches concepts, provides instruction in advance concepts, or allows students to engage in collaborative learning.
Asynchronous learning does not mean the school day is shortened or it is early release.
