How do I write a cover letter
Cover letters and speculative applications
There are 2 main types of cover letters - ones for advertised and ones for non advertised vacancies.
Cover letter
This is to support your CV or application form - this is for an advertised vacancy.
Speculative letter
Sometimes jobs are not advertised but you have the skills and experience to complete the job. This is when you reach out to a company showcasing your skills and experiences and why they should employ you.
What to write?
- Strong introduction - you need to know who is in charge, your statement needs to be strong, it needs to catch the readers eye.
- What are your skills and experiences - what role can you do
- What can you do for the employer - What can you bring to the table
- When are you available?
- Keep the layout simple
- Finish strong and with confidence
