Principal Updates

Greetings families!

It's hard to say, this will be the final newsletter of the 22-23 school year. We only have 5 school days remaining. Our final two days include a talent show showcasing our amazing students. Parents/guardians/special guests of performers are invited to watch their child(ren) perform.

As we enter the final stretch, your support and reminders from home for students to show the Saber Way and meet school expectations would be very helpful in making the final week as smooth as possible. Our Saber Way expectations are for students to be: Safe, Kind, Respectful and Responsible.

I would like to say congratulations on completing the 22-23 school year! You have played a tremendous role in your child(ren's) lives during this school year. From getting them ready in the morning, to making sure they had what they needed for the day, to supporting them at various events throughout the year. We could not have done any of this without your support and collaboration.

To our kindergarten families, you and your child have successfully completed the first year of elementary school! Can you believe how much your child has learned and grown? It's so fun to look back on the early months and see how far they've come!

To our 5th grade families, as you wrap up elementary school with your child, it's crazy to think how fast time has flown by! Thinking back to their kindergarten year until now, my how they've changed! Please remember that your child will always have a special place in their teachers hearts. Trust me when I say, we will remember you for years to come and look forward to them coming back their senior year to do their elementary walk-thru before they graduate!

It has been an absolute honor and pleasure being your principal this year. I have enjoyed all of it! The amount of trust you put in me and the staff to take care of and teach your children is greatly appreciated. It has been a joy to watch each of them grow and flourish this year. Your children are loving, caring, kind, smart, funny, talented kids and they each will forever hold a special place in my heart as their principal.

Thank you for all your support with your child's education and your dedication and trust with Red Oak.

And now we hand the baton back to you! 😉

Have a wonderful summer and we can't wait to see you back in fall!

Your partner in education,

Krysten Ellis, Principal

End of Year Student Meal Account Reminder

🍎 Free School Meals Starting July 1, 2023 🍎

With the last day of school approaching, families are reminded to check their child’s meal account balance in Infinite Campus and manage funds so that each account is as close to $0.00 by the last day of school. You may leave the money in your child’s account as well to purchase extra milks at all grade levels. Any money left in your child’s account will transfer with them while they are enrolled in Shakopee Schools.

Infinite Campus can be accessed via the web or mobile app. Click here for helpful details on how to access the Food Services/Meal section or simply log in to the Infinite Campus Parent Portal and go to More > Food Service.

The Shakopee Public Schools Food Services team will connect with families that have a balance (including those that are negative) in early summer to assist in transferring funds to another sibling’s account, donating to the Angel Fund to support other students in our school community, providing payment on negative balances or managing necessary refunds.

Registering now helps ensure we have them placed in a classroom and have the appropriate number of teachers hired for the fall.

It also helps us get you the necessary information you need to be as prepared as possible for Kindergarten in the fall.

Translation support is available throughout the process.

Attendance

Parents/guardians should call the attendance line when a student will be late or absent 952-496-5953.

Students arriving after 9:05 will need to be walked in by their parent/guardian and will be marked tardy.

Visitor Reminders

All visitors are required to check-in at the front office and must be screened through the Raptor system during normal school hours.

Volunteers

If you would like to volunteer in the classroom or attend a field trip or volunteer with students, you must have a completed, cleared background check. Click here to fill out the form.

Change in PM transportation

If your child has a change in how they are getting home, please call the office no later than 3pm so we can get the correct information to the classroom teacher. If you pick up your student, prior to the end of the day, we will call your student to the office when you arrive, so please allow yourself ample time.

Systems and Procedural Reminders

A few reminders worth noting to the beginning and end of the day structures and procedures:

  • All doors open at 8:55 a.m. (walkers and bikers, door E unlock at 8:55). Students should remain in their cars or on the Saber Paw prints outside until the doors open
  • Breakfast for all students will be in their classroom. This will allow students to be in class and be a part of the morning activities without having them rush through breakfast.
  • Drop off/pick up will continue to be in the upper lot. We ask that parents/guardians remain in the car for a more safe and efficient process. There are adults to help get students out of cars in the morning and into cars in the afternoon. Please pull forward to help keep the line moving. Please do not park and get down to drop off your children. This is for their safety.
  • Our drop off/pick up line is secondary to getting the busses in and out of the lower lot. Please be mindful of where you line up to allow for large and small busses to maneuver through.
  • Families arriving after 9:05 MUST walk their child(ren) into the building and sign them in.
  • School ends at 3:45, which means students will not be called for the car line until approximately 3:48. Again, please remain in your car in the line and we will help get your child in the car.

Thank you for your attention to detail on these for the safety of our children.
