Horizon Middle School would like to give a big shout out to one of our amazing community members. Dave Frank of Greenacres Gypsum has kindly donated several bags of chalk for our baseball fields. Thank you, Mr. Frank, for your generous gift! It is truly appreciated.
VALLEYFEST
Friday, September 23rd - Valleyfest Parade. Come down and support your Hawks as the ASB, WEB, 8th grade band and dance team, along with some of our staff, march down Sprague Avenue. The parade begins at 7:30. (Route diagram attached below)
Saturday and Sunday-September 24th and 25th - Many of our 8th grade students will be volunteering their time at the Valleyfest events at Mirabeau Park. It looks to be a great weekend, so come say hi and have some family fun!
OUTDOOR GAMES
We are excited to bring a new event for our students! On Friday, September 30th, from 2:45-4:30 pm we will be hosting our first ever Hawks' Outdoor Games Afternoon. This event is open to all 6th, 7th and 8th graders. Find a partner and come play some Corn Hole, Kan Jam, and Ladder Ball.
HORIZON DANCE TEAM
Horizon Middle School is excited to start a Dance Team Intramural for all grade levels (6,7,8) this year. The program will run the entire school year. Sign ups are available on Final Forms and payment can be made on CVSD's InTouch Payment System.
Practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:45-3:45.
GUITAR CLUB
Have you ever wanted to learn to play guitar? Already play and want a space to learn more? Need a guitar to practice on? Students can come Tuesdays after school 2:45-3:15 and/or Thursday before school 8:35-9:05 (come one or both days) to Mrs. Morgan's room 171! Guitars will be provided. We will start next week! Please contact Mrs. Morgan with any questions.
After School Arrangements
Please make arrangements with your child before school as to their afternoon transportation plans. Due to the number of students in the building, it is not always easy to get messages to students throughout the day. This will also help alleviate disruptions to class times.
IMPORTANT PARENT PICK UP GUIDELINES
When picking students up in the parent pick up lot at the east side of the school, please pull forward and pick up from the curb only. We want to ensure everyone makes it to their ride safely and efficiently.
Please see the attached flyers for opportunities available to our district families:
Guiding Good Choices Family Sessions. This program has 5 classes over a 5 week period for families interested in learning more about raising children ages 8-14.
Love and Logic: The Love and Logic Institute is dedicated to making parenting and teaching fun and rewarding, instead of stressful and chaotic. The classes provide practical tools and techniques that help adults achieve respectful, healthy relationships with their children. There will be 4 classes over 2 weeks.
School Hours and Late Start Thursday Information
Arrival -
Students will not be allowed in the school building until 7:45 (8:45 on Thursdays).
Dismissal -
Students are to leave school grounds upon dismissal at 2:40 unless they are involved in school sports or other school related after hours activities. If you are picking your child up, we ask that you arrive as close to 2:40 as possible to lessen the number of students on campus.
BUS LANE ETIQUETTE
Please refrain from parking along the curb in front of the building. This area is for busses before school, after school and for our mid-day pickups and drop offs. Thank you.
