4th Grade Magnet Classroom Update
March 12-16
Vertical Book Club Groups
Students will be participating in a vertical book club this spring! They have chosen from a selection of 5 books and will be regrouped based on their book choices. Each week they will have a reading assignment, much like their homework book clubs, to complete along with a few questions to respond to which are centered around the concepts of relationships, conflict, and power. They will be given time in class to complete some of the reading but they will also have some to do at home. Book clubs started last week and will meet on Thursday afternoons for the next 5 weeks.

In math, students will use data they have collected related to a topic of their choice to create persuasive commercials. Their commercials will incorporate graphs and statistics based on their MAPs range. In science, students will begin creating eBooks that explain the internal and external characteristics of a specific plant and animal.

In ELA, students will finish up their study of women in history by creating a product representing a woman of their choice. Additionally, we will begin a quick unit on theme during which we will look at a variety of texts that share similar themes. Students will compare and contrast the texts and analyze the way the authors develop the theme in each text.
