SLE WEEKLY UPDATE
November 4, 2022
Good afternoon,
We hope you had a great week and hope that you were able to enjoy the beautiful weather. As a reminder, parent-teacher conference sign-up information went out this week and sign-up sheets are available until November 8th, at midnight.
Today we implemented some new boundaries for hall passes and restroom access due to recent issues with concerning graffiti in restrooms at both high schools. If you did not have a chance to review the information pertaining to these changes, you can find it by clicking here.
As a reminder, there is no school on November 8th due as it is a professional development day for teaching staff.
Have a great weekend!
Thank you to Mrs. Bingely's 1st hour English Class for
raising the most money for the Key Clubs Trick or Treat for
UNICEF fundraiser. The Key Club rewarded
her class with cider and donuts this morning.
Thank you to Oakland County Bar Association
for welcoming our students to the Youth Law Conference
in Troy. They learned about careers in law,
law enforcement, and criminal justice.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Please view this Parent Conferences Sign-Up Link for more information.
The media center continued to be buzzing with students during the month of October. Students enjoyed their time before school and during lunches browsing the shelves, reading and working on homework, playing a game with friends, working on the community puzzle, or helping each other solve the online puzzle. Students checked out a record breaking 307 books this month (and that does not include all of the class novels that have been checked out as well).
Also, juniors and seniors had the opportunity to meet with representatives from Adrian College, Central Michigan University, and Western Michigan University during Cougar Hours this month in the media center.
But, the most popular October activity was the first annual Booktober Fest that took place last week. Many students participated in the lunch time activities each day: spooky trivia, a sugar skull drawing contest, ghostly bingo (a BIG hit!), a bone bridge stem challenge, haunted digital escape rooms, creepy cartoons, estimation jar contests, a two sentence scary story contest, and lots of scary books on display for checkout! Several students from Mr. Robinson’s painting class painted the windows this month with a fall theme to brighten up the space.
Due to the interest shown last week with the stem challenge, the media center would like to start gathering materials to create a makerspace for students to use on a regular basis before school and during lunches. If you would like to help support the media center’s makerspace, please take a look at the Makerspace Amazon Wish List. Thank you! We appreciate your support!

Parent Volunteer Help Needed - POTLUCK FOR TEACHERS DURING CONFERENCES
Hello SLEHS Families:
On Thursday, November 10, Parent Teacher Conferences will take place. The teachers have a long day and it is our tradition to provide them with a delicious potluck style dinner provided by our families. All items need to be brought to the main office before 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, November 10. You will need to ring the bell and have your ID ready in order to be let into the building.
Please bring the food donations on disposable dishes as much as possible. If you send in a crockpot, make sure the pot and the lid are both labeled. Anything you want returned should be labeled. We do not have the ability to wash any crockpots or dishes, and they will be in the main office after the dinner. You can pick them up there after 6:30 or so.
Here is the SIGN UP SHEET. Please email Laura Hogan (hoganl@slcs.us) with any questions.
