Canby High School Family Newsletter

For the Week of March 10th through 17th, 2022

Principal's Message

Good afternoon Canby High School Students and Families!

We’re in the midst of finals, and the term comes to an end tomorrow. Look for report cards and grade reports on Synergy late next week. Also, students can find their schedules for third trimester, which starts on Monday, in their StudentVUE.

The Cougar Dancers competed at the Mt. Hood Dance Festival at David Douglas HS on Saturday, March 5th. They earned 1st Place in the Show Division, with their highest score of the season. Patricia Campbell and Gracelyn Chaffee earned Top 10 in Novice Drill Down, and Olivia Coleman, Noreth Palangen, and Marissa VanHoose earned Top 10 in Advanced Drill Down! The 2022 Allstate Team was announced at the competition, and our own senior Abigail Chaffee was named to the prestigious 6A Allstate Team! The dance team invites everyone to their annual Friends and Family Night on Wednesday, March 16, 7pm in the main

Our snowboarders compete at state this week. Good luck to our state qualifiers: Fiona Shadrin, Elizabeth Shadrin, Koby Kessler, Peyton Walker!

Finally, I think everyone is aware that masks will become optional for indoor school activities this weekend. Most welcome this development, but some students and staff may choose to continue to wear masks. We hope everyone will be respectful of individual choices, as we return to a more normal school situation. And remember…COVID is still around. Students should stay home if they are sick.

Stay healthy and strong, Canby!

Go Cougars!

ACT Testing

ACT Testing for all juniors is April 5th. We will also administer the PreACT for all 9th and 10th graders. The PreACT is a practice test for the ACT. Juniors are encouraged to prep for the ACT and can access free online practice tests, study guides, online test prep and events through ACT. Go to this link for ACT prep: (https://www.act.org/content/act/en/products-and-services/the-act/test-preparation/free-act-test-prep.html). 12th graders have the day to visit colleges and explore post high school options.

Oregon State Assessment

11th graders are still required to take the Oregon State Assessment (OSA) per state and federal requirements. They will start testing next week in reading. Note that this assessment could potentially be used in lieu of college placement exams with satisfactory test scores (check with the college for more information). Parents who want to opt out their students can go to this link and click on “Opt-Out Form” in English or Spanish: https://www.canby.k12.or.us/en-US/oregon-state-assessments-bb3efb0f.

  • To report an absence, call our attendance line at 503-263-7210 or email chs-attendance@canby.k12.or.us.

  • Please report an absence as soon as possible and no later than 48 hours after the absence.
