Types of Treasury Securities
- Treasury Bonds - over 10 year year maturity, with a coupon payment every six months
- Treasury Bills - mature in one year or less, usually sold at a discount from the face value
- Treasury Notes - 1 to 10 year maturity, with a coupon payment every six months, sold in denominations of $1,000
- Treasury Inflation Protected Securities (TIPS) - fixed-income investment without the inflation risk
Benefits
They are backed by the US government, so there is minimal risk.
